Good News Report
(The Asheville Times)
From G. E. Setzer, Asheville: In a day when
man's apathy to the plight of his fellow man is
often brought into focus, it is good to relate an inci
dent of concern.
1 Friday I witnessed a scene worth relating.
It involved a lady who called Southern Bell’s Ashe
ville business office and was noticeably upset. In
time she became more emotional and related her
plan in her anger to shoot her husband.
Mrs. Kathyrn Messer and Mrs. Jane Wilson
•fayed on the telephone with the lady for almost
an hour after the office was closed. They calmed
her and a young daughter, while over another
phone, they searched for a relative, a neighbor, or
* fnend who would come to her home and take the
gun from the lady and settle her down. The vigil
was kept until the summoned friend arrived and
announced to the telephone ladies that everything
was under control.
Neither lady knew the distraught woman, but
fhey displayed deep concern for their fellowman.
When many would have been eager to pass the
incident off as none of their business and go home
on time at the end of the work week, these ladies
showed love for a unknown fellowman which is
worthy of recognition.
(Editor’s note: The Mrs. Wilson referred to
above is Mrs. Sid Wilson, of Enon. Her father is
George Merrill, of Etowah. The Times is happy to
report such “Good Hews” items as the one above.)

EASY WAY TO APPLY TIRE CHAINS
With a little "know-how” and practice, it can be done In 6 minutes,
without a jack and without getting your clothes dirty.
STEP NO. 1 Spread the chaina on the ground
behind the rear wheels to remove tangles. Hooka
should be to the rear. Reinforced chains are best and
the projecting teeth or cleats should be facing up.
STEP NO. 2 Gather the chains behind the tire so
they won't catch the fender, and attach the end
links to the “chain appller," a simple spring steel
wire that is easily slipped onto the tire.
STEP NO. S Drive the car forward about one wheal
revolution, eo that the applier carries the chalna
around the tire.
STEP NO. 4 Ramova the appller and fatten tha
inaida hook first, than tha outalda hook. With a llttte
