Two Are Killed And Six Injured In
Head-On Collision On Highway 64
Rites Held On
Sunday For Mrs.
Tinsley, Daughter
A Brevard woman and her
eight-year-old daughter were
hilled in a head-on collision
on VS Highway 64 about mid
way between Brevard and
Bosnian last Friday night
about 6:15.
Six other persons were seri
ously injured in the accident,
and the two fatalities are the
first during 1971 in Transyl
vania county.
Killed were Mrs. Alice
Moses Tinsley and Jerrie Jo
Tinsley. They were pronounc
ed dead on arrival at the
Transylvania Community hos
pital.
Mrs. Tinsley was the driver of
one car and the driver of the
other was George Lyda Alex
ander, 26, according to Highway
Patrolman Gene Beshears, who
investigated.
Alexander was trapped in
his car for more than an hour
before he could be freed by
law enforcement officers, the
Highway Patrol and the
Rescue Squads of Brevard
and Rosman.
He was taken to the Transyl
vania Community hospital and
later transferred to Memorial
Mission Hospital in Asheville.
According to Patrolman Be
shears, Alexander is being
charged with two counts of
manslaughter, driving under
the influence and reckless
driving.
Passengers in the Alexander
car who were injured were:
George Osteen, 21; Tommy
Crowe, 23; and Ray Jones, 26,
all of Rosman.

Bostic Home After Being Wrecked By Explosion
On Tuesday Morning
Four Women Are Injured In
Explosion At Bostic Home
Four Brevard women were
seriously injured Tuesday
morning when the furnace at
the residence of Gus J. Bos
tic, 86 Forest Hill Drive, ex
ploded.
The explosion occurred
around 11:20, and the Brevard
Fire department and the Bre
vard Rescue squad answered
the call immediately.
The firemen and the mem
bers of the Rescue squad,
rescued the women and rush
ed them to the Transylvania
Community hospital. Dr. Al
fred Elwell was quickly on
the scene and aided in rescue
operations.
Bricks and window panes
were blown all over the yard
and the entire house and fur
nishings were Wrecked by the
terrific blast.
The injured women were:
Mrs. Gus Bostic, 58; Mrs.
Jennie Delia Wells, age 80;
Miss Ethel Wells, age 59; and
Mrs. Esther A. Elliott, age 69.
Mrs. Bostic, Mrs. Wells and
Mrs. Elliott were trapped be
neath the floor and furniture
following the explosion. Miss
Wells, who was in the kitchen
at the time, was hit by flying
debris and suffered a fractured
shoulder and ribs. Her condi
