Brevard Linksters Head For Regionals The Brevard Linksters, in conference play at Etowah last week, finished second behind Spartanburg Junior College. For the 36 hole match the to tal for Brevard was 619, as opposed to Spartanburg’s team total of 603. Bow man for Brevard was Don Dickey, who shot a 76 and a 75 for a 151, for the two day event. Led by Don Duvall and a host of other talented batsmen. Beam bombed Green II to 2 in the first game. Green I and III bounced back in the second game to win 3 to 2 as the event we ♦ into an exciting extra in nir Mike Faggart knocked in th .'in which proved to be the winning margin. The teams played twice that clay because they were pressec for playing time. Beam openec up the first ipning with five bif runs as Don Duvall’s bat once again led the way. Green tal lied four runs in the bottom oi the first inning. Beam cam* across with five more runs in the later innings, but Green failed to score. The game end ed as Green hit into a double play which only proved typical play for the Beam champions as they won, 10 to 4. Tennis Team Plays In Conference Tournament ine conference tennis tourn ament was held last Friday at Wingate College; ancl, as ex pected, the host team won all the honors. Regular season con ference champion Wingate was followed by Anderson, Lees McRae, Brevard and Montreat Anderson. Brevard College was repre sented at the tournament by sophomores, Phil Hess, Ernie Sewell, and Mike Faggart. For various reasons Bob Propst, Stuart Byers and Lyndon Ash worth were not able to attend. Hess, Sewell, and Faggart all played singles while Hess and Sewell also joined to form a doubles team. In the singles competition Hess and Sewell both lost to Anderson and Mon treat - Anderson respectively. On their way to yet another vic tory, the team set 12 meet rec ords, and broke two school records. Meet records were set in the 440 relay, Mile run, 120 HH, 440 dash, long jump, 440 1H, 220 dash, Javelin, pole vault, 2 mile relay and the triple jump. Ed Williams Cap turned two school records by running the 100 yd. dash in 9.7 and by scoring more total points in a season than anyone in the history of Brevard track. The National meet will be held in Mesa, Arizona, on May 20, 21, and 22. Brevard will be well represented by Lennox Stewart, Ed Williams, Reggie McAfee, and Clarence Thomas. Two of the team’s stars, Mc Afee and Stewart, have also been invited to compete in the International Freedom Games to be held Sunday, May 16, in Philadelphia, Pa.
