PAGE FOUR Thursday, May 20, 1971 Wild Animal Bites, Risk Of Rabies Still A Public Problem Dr. Marius Wells made the folio wing report, which is of public interest, at the regular weekly meeting of the Brevard Rotary club on Mon day: “Wild animal bites and t.he ri‘k of rabies continues to be a problem in North Carolina. The following two cases, which involved a pet raccoon and a baby black bear, recent ly occurred in our state. “The raccoon bad been captured from the wild and efforts had been made to tame the animal. It bad be come somewhat docile and the owner decided to take it to an oyster bar as an ob ject for conservation. During the visit to the oyster bar, two persons were bitten by the raccoon. Before the local health department became aware of the situation, the owner decided to release the raccoon back to its natural habitat. Without the biting animal for laboratory exami nation for rabies, it was rec ommended that both persons receive post - exposure an tirabies treatment One indi vidual refused treatment and NOTICE Pursuant to the zoning or dinance of the Town of Bre vard, notice is hereby given of a public hearing to be held at the Town Hall on Monday, June 7, 1971, at 7:30 o’clock, P. There fore, it is not recommended that wild animals be confined for observation purposes. When the offending wild animal can be captured, without undue risk of expos ing additional people, the head should be submitted to the Laboratory Division for rabies examination. Coach Emory said the football team could not operate without these very important members of the team. When he was asked what the requirements for these posi tions were, he said, “They are not required to maintain the high marks needed to play foot ball although we would like it if they did. They will be re • quired to follow the trainin ; rules set forth for the player:, such as no smoking, no drink ing, and keeping a neat ap pearance.” Coach Emory said that he would appreciate it very much if any young men in the school who are interested in becoming either a manager or a trainer would come by his office and talk with him about it. Stan Hudson, Terry Crite, Frankie Robinson and Robbie Merrill will attend Blue Ridge Assembly at Black Mountain, N. C. The conference will last from June 6 - 1L Coach Ed Emory had some thoughts on the upcoming event “The various summer conferences are to help young men improve their leadership through a true Christian at mosphere. These four people who are attending will be re sponsible for our FCA huddle group next year.” Eagle Moss and Phil Hudson represented BHS at the Blue Ridge Assembly last summer. Usually the sports editor of a newspaper gives a rundown of the athletic year of Ms school in the last issue. But instead I’ll give this past years’ record of Burford High of Winnekau kam, Minn. Burford didn’t win any foot ball games last year but they almost tied one. Finster was leading Buford 72-0. going in to the 4th quarter when Tommy Vetti kicked a 107 yd. field goal (Strange things grow m the north woods.) ^ t The snowmobile )cam coiy pleted Bufords’ athletic’ pro gram. They didn’t play any. body. Concerning their season Coach Mumpy Magursky said, “Well you lose a few and some get rained out.” Notice Of The The Board of Equalization and Review will meet in the County Commissioners Office in the Transyl vania County Court House on the following dates and hours for the purpose of hearing complaints and equal izing values on real propel of property owners in these locations: 1 €* m I Brevard Inside Brevard Outside ■ I June 1 & 2, 1971 June 1 & 2, 1971 ‘7:30 to 9 p.m. 7:30 to 9 p.m.
