Jack Krause of Union Mills, area chairman of the program. Seven communities in Tran sylvania county are participa ting in the program this year These are Cathey’s Creek, Ce dar Mountain, Lake Toxaway I.'ttle River, Quebec, Sapphire Whitewater and Silversteen. The community development program, now in its 22nd year is a program of competitor among organized rural areas. Objective of the program is to encourage people to plan together and cooperate in building better communi ties in which to live. Each community developcs and carries out improvements ac cording to their needs. Over the years a tremendous va riety of projects have been completed. The development program i' ;ponsored by the agricultural agencies in each county in co operation with local sponsor; and the Agricultural Develop meat Council, Area award; totaling nearly $6,000 will be awarded next fall to the com munities that make the most progress. Over $10,000 in lo cal awards will be presented in various counties. Communities will be di vided into three divisions for judging. One division is for those communities with less than IS families, another for 75 to 15$ families and one for those with over 150 families. All communities will be judged on the basis of coifhiunity-wide projects, youth programs, better fam-‘ ily living and increased in come. There is also a special con test involving youth programs and another for roadside im provement. A total of 59 area; entered the roadside contest.
