In Tuesday afternoon's open er, Manager John Monteith’s Orioles edged the Jays in the bottom of the seventh inning 3-2 to grab the early league lead. Dwight Perkins went all the way on the mound for the Orioles to receive credit for the win, allowing only three hits. Wednesday afternoon, the Tigers and the Dodgers played their openers, while the rest of the week’s Babe Ruth schdtile finds the Jays and the tiger! playing on ThursdayV and the Dodgers and the Orioles meet ing Friday afternoon. All Babe Ruth League games are played On the L. Dixon Field close to Pis gait Forest Elementary School at Plsgah Forest. Game time each afternoon is S:l5 p.m. A complete Babe Ruth League schedule is carried in this issue of The Times on page four, section three. Play in the Minor League and Little League is current ly in its fourth week, and interest and participation in the two leagues has never been better here. In the Minor League, Man ager Joe Whitaker’s undefeated Cardinals are currently leading the seven team league, but sev eral other teams are in close contention. Manager John Danielson has his Braves undefeated and on top in the eight team Little League, but here too, several teams are breathing right down the leader’s neck. A sign of the close competi tion in the Little League this year can be shown in the fact that every team in the league has • already won at- least one game this early in the season. One Little League Man ager summed up the situation nicely when he quipped, “The only easy games in this league are those that we’Ve already played”. Crowds have been large and enthusiastic at all games play ed so far, and those persons who enjoy baseball are cordial ly invited to come out most any evening and K>e these local youngsters perform. Currently, three games are played each evening, except Wednesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m„ at the E. L. Lynn Field at Pisgah Forest.
