to call every local Scottish Ma
son who have received any of
the degrees from the 14th
through the 33rd degree, and
if they have not been contact

to the temple for the free sup
per and attend the meeting.
Jerry Jerome, past master of
Dunn’s Rock Masonic lodge will
give the welcome address.
They announce that the Most
Illustrious John I. Smith of
Greenville, S. C., will be the
principal speaker at the meet
ing.
Mr. Smith will be introduced
by F. Gudger Cabe, Candler,
33rd degree Mason and past
Venerable Master of the lodge
of Perfection. He is class direc
tor of each fall and spring
reunions.
Mr. Smith, a 38rd Degree
MaSon, is Sovereign Grand In
spector General in South Caro
lina. He was crowned to this
high post in Washington, D. C.,
on October 25, 1963.
A native of Greenville, Mr.
Smith was educated in the
schools there, and he is also a

graduate of Davidson college.
He is vice president of Ab
ney Mills and is in charge of
the Renfrew Bleachery divi

visit Brevard and attend the
meeting and the buses will
leave the Masonic Temple in
Asheville promptly at 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Smith will be accomp
anied from Greenville, S. C.,
to Brevard by 10 prominent
Masons from the Greenville
area.
The local Scottish Rite
Masons are urged to come and
cat as soon after 7:00 o’clock
as they can in order to clear
the way for the visiting Ma
sons.

After contracts are signed,
hospital construction should be

Construction, which is ex
pected to require about 18
months, will be the culmi
nation of plans for the much
needed new Transylvania
Community Hospital which be
gan with the usually success
ful “Fund For Your Life”
campaign in 1989.
In this remarkably success
drive, generous individuals
and industries of Transylvania
County responded with dona
tions and pledges in the sum
Of $1 million. Matching funds
have been allocated from the
government and private endow
ments.

that the local pledges, while
generally on schedule, have
fallen behind about 5 per

particularly needed at this

Mr. Bailey also reports that
State Highway construction
crews have made remarkable
progress on the new hospital
access road.
Highway crews installed
the bridge over Lamb's
Creek, between the four
lane V. S. Highway 64 east
of Brevard aad the hospital
site, in one day — Jane 82.
This was possible by use of
a pre fabricated bridge struc
ture. Following the bridge in
stallation, the new access
road was graveled the next
day.
Hard surfacing will fol
low after packing and settling,
according to Mr. Bailey.
