Transylvania Music Cafmp
will be the vacation spot
most popular in North Caro
lina the weekend of July
16-18th; at that time Music
Federation members from the
I1-ctate Southeastern Region
of the National Federation of
Muric Clubs gather for this
traditional summer meeting
of the Region, whose vice
president, is Mrs, Jack Ward
of Greenville. State Federa
tions rotate the hostess-ship
and this year, the Alabama
Federation of Music Clubs,
Mrs. L. W. Kranert, Presi

The National Federation will
be represented by Mrs. Frank
Vought, National First Vice
President, of Baton Rouge, La.
Mrs. Leak N. Settlemyer,
NCFMC President, heads the
North Carolina delegation,
expected to be the largest
present. State officers, Board
members and club members
enjoy the operas (two are
planned for Friday night, the
16th: Pagliacci by Leoneavel
lo and Unicorn in the Garden
by Russell Smith); the con

chestra, Emil Raab, conductor,
will be heard Saturday night,
with Cellist Martha Gerscbef

With a sigh of exasperation,
Mother looked at the kitchen
door. It was a mass of tiny
fingerprints. She called to
gether her three children and
demanded to know whose dirty
hands had marred the door.
“Was it you, Billy?” she asked.
“You’ve been in and out all
day, and just look at your
hands.”
“Oh, those can’t be my fing
er marks,” the boy declared, “I
always kick the door open.”
Two busy mothers who were
driving their children to school
collided one morning. The
women got out and inspected
the damage but decided they
didn’t really have time to have
a wreck right then. They
agreed to meet later.
That afternoon each woman
drove to the scene of the morn
ing accident, carefully ma
neuvering her automobile into
the exact position of the acci
dent, and then they called the
police.
A college football coach, be
ing interviewed, was asked how
he felt about all the publicity
his star halfback was receiving.
“Won’t if go to his head?”
“It would,” sighed the coach,
“if the boy could read.”
Bus conductor (calling from
upper deck): “Is there a mack
intosh down there big enough
to keep two young ladies
warm?”
Voice from below: “No, but
there’s a MacPherson that’s
willing to try.”

moderated by Mrs. Ward. The
weekend opens with a ^-a in the
Hinda Honigman Library at 4
p.m. Friday. Brevard College is
opening one of its dormitories
to accommodate delegates. i
The National Federation
supports many music camps
ac ross the United States and
the idea of holding a week
end for regional bnsiness and
fellowship is some 20 yean
old. Among the oldest of these
is the weekend at Chatauqua
in New York and Inspiration
Point Weekend in Arkansas.
Scholarship students sent to
the camp by the State Federa
tions are always heard along
with some sent by local chibs.
The Transylvania Scholarship
winner from North Carolina
this year is cellist Saxon Scar
borough of Raleigh. The
Georgia Federation usually
sends six or seven and almost
all the 14 states in the region
have representatives in camp,
holding foil or partial scho
larships.
