Canton’s win over the locals helped in some small measure to atone for a close 8-7 loss suf fered here at the hands of Bre vard the previous week, and two straight losses to the Tran sylvanians last year. The game was a real pitch er’s duel between Brevard’s Randy Bryson and Canton's Mike Heatherly, who both pitched beautifully. After three scoreless in nings, Brevard scored two runs in the' top of the fourth when Heatherly experienced his only real trouble of the game. He walked four and gave up hits to Randy Bryson and Todd Norris in the inning, but got out of it by giving up only two runs. Canton tied it up in the bot tom of the fourth with two runs coming on a walk, a double and an error. Two walks, a fielder’s choice and another error let in the winning run in the fifth inning, and when Bre vard failed to score in their half of the sixth, the Canton lads had their first victory ever over Brevard. The game concluded a most successful Minor League season here. All-Stars No. 1 Clip Clyde In Tourney, 17 To 1 Jim Perkins pitched three innings of hitless ball, and Jim Hyatt stroked a long two run homer to lead the Bre vard Little League All-Stars No. 1 to a one-sided 17-1 vic tory over the Clyde All-Stars No. 2 in the Buncombe County Little League Tour ney last week. The win evened up No. l’s record to 1-1, and kept them alive in the big-double elimina tion tourney. No. 1 had lost their opener to Hominy Valley on Monday night by a score of 4-4. The Brevard lads parlayed five walks and ten hits into seventeen runs in the game, which was halted after only four innings of play due to the one-sided score. Perkins allowed only one baserunner in his three in nings, but that one scored on a walk, a stolen base and an error. Tim Childers came on in the fourth inning and retired the three men he faced in one, two, three order to end the game. Danny Roberts started on the mound for the locals, but his team jumped ahead so quickly with six runs in the first inning and another 10 runs in the sec ond frame, thgt he was quickly pulled in order to be ready for further use later in the week. He did receive credit for the win, however' with Rusty Barnes coming on in relief in the third inning; and Terry Pax!-; ton finishing up in the fourth. The game was halted at the end of four Innings because Brew* was so Ate ahead.
