Simmons, City Execu tive in charge of the Brevard office of First Union National, said ‘The American Banker”, a daily banking newspaper, made the compilation based on de posits as of December 31, 1970. The banking paper also shows First Union National Bank ranked 56th among the 100 largest banks in the United States based on total deposits as of June 30, 1971. Last year at the same time FUNB was 57th. Total deposits of the five hundred largest banks rose 15.4 per cent in 1970 to a record 890-billion dollars. Deposits of the three hundred largest banks in the United States rose 17.4 per cent during the year to 342.8 billion dollars. Jason L Orr Given Honor At Air Base U. S. Air Forte Master Ser geant Jason L. Orn, son of Mrs. Lucy C. Orr of 107 Minor St., Brevard, has been awarded the Air Training Command (ATC) Master Instructor rating at Sheppard AFB, Tex. Sergeant Orr was accorded the honor in recognition of out standing service as a technical instructor in communications equipment maintenance at Shep pard. The sergeant’s unit supports the ATC mission of training airmen and officers in the di verse skills required by the na tion’s aerospace force. A 1945 graduate of Brevard High School, he attended Bre vard Junior College. Seabee Reserve Unit Is Being Organized, WNC A Seabee Reserve Unit is be ing organized in Asheville. The Naval Reserve Training Center is contacting local Seabee vet erans to organize a drilling Con struction Battallion as a unit of the Asheville Naval Reserve. Seabees (an acronym for CB - Construction Batallions) were Naval Units organized dur ing World War II to construct advance bases, ports and air fields in remote areas to support our overseas forces.
