Students, Faculty, Alumni The group, composed of students, faculty and alumni, and under the direction of Harvey Miller and Joan Mos er, will present a variety of vocal and instrumental selec tions. The contests include sym phony orchestra, symphonic band, marching band, stage band and choral organizations, as well as an international pi ano competition. Ann Curtis, a pupil of Sam Cope, and Tim Piper, a pupil of Harvey Miller and both recent graduates of the col lege, will enter the piano competition. The Brevard ensemble in cludes a flute trio and a wind choir of brasses and woodwinds. Vocal selections will feature the works of Frauenholtz, Dun stable, Mendelssohn, Billings, Bergsma and Vaughn Williams, along with two compositions by Miller for voices accomp anied by woodwinds and vibra phone. The group will also present a selection that was written for I.ord and Lady Guildford when they visited Greens boro three years ago. Appalachian folk music will be included and excerpts from recent popular selections. Pi ano accompanist for the en semble is Adelaide Miller. To Combine With Tour “Time not. spent rehearsing or performing will be spent touring England,” says Har vey Miller. “The itinerary in cludes an overnight stay and sightseeing tour of London, visits to Portsmouth, Windsor, Hampton Court, Woodstock, Bladon and Wales as well as the time spent in Guildford at the University of Surrey and at Conventry, at the Univer sity of Warwick. “We are sure this will pro vide many pleasant memories,” Mother Of Mrs. Edith Jenkins Died Wednesday Mrs. Joyce Dills Garrett, age 92, of Sylva died Wednesday morning in a Sylva hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of the late R. U. Garrett, Sr., who died in 1964 and daughter of the late A. B. and Josephine Brendle Dills, a pioneer family of Jack son County. Mrs. Garrett was a graduate of Cullowhee Norman, now Western Carolina University. She was a member of the First Baptist church of Sylva. Surviving are four daughters, Miss Nita and Docia Garrett of the home, Mrs. Rose Hair of Sylva and Mrs. Edith Jenkins, of 704 Poplar Street, Brevard; three grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Family .services will be held at the home at 10:30 a.m. Fri day. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Dills Cemetery in Sylva. The Reverend Robert L. Clegg will officiate. The body has been returned to the residence to await the service hour. Return August 21st Most of the 35 member group left from the Asheville Airport test Sunday morning, with the rest joining at Ken nedy International Airport in New York Sunday evening. The group then departed for England by chartered air craft late Sunday evening, ar riving at the Stausted Air port, Stansted, England, Mon day morning. After a week of rehearsing and touring, their performance will be this coining Sunday eve ning at the Guildford Civic Hall. Following the performance, the group will spend another week visiting England ant leave for home August 21st. Widely Recognized The main purpose of the ensemble is to perform on occasions such as this. It was formed out of the band, glee club, and other perform ing individuals at Brevard College with the planned capability of performing in strumental, vocal, and vocal instrumental works, accord ing to Mr. Miller. The group has already achieved wide recognition in their home country; now it stands to achieve international recognition. This, too, is only appropri ate for a group from the “Mu sic Capital of the South.” Singing Slated - .
