' dropped a close 13-6 decision to the pow erful Tryon Tigers at Bosnian. A large enthusiastic crowd, sjaid to be the second largest ever to attend a football game at Ro man, saw the homestand ing Tigers out-rush, out-pass, and generally out play their op pererts in every department but the only one that really counts, the score. Early in the contest, after Tryon had held for downs on the first series after t.he open ing kickoff, Rosman was forced to punt. Tim Thorpe dropped back to kick, got a bad snap from center, and Tryon recovered the elusive pigrkin on Rosman’s five yard line. Three plays later, halfback John Mize bulled his way over from the one yard line and Tryon took the lead at 6-0. Tim Justice kicked the extra point and the visitors moved ahead 7-0. Rosman had a good drive halted on the next series by a fumble at Tryon’s 40 yard line. In the third quarter, Rosman was again forced to kick from deep in their own territory, and a good runback gave Tryon a first down at the Rosman 35 yard line. Several plays later, Tryon quarterback Joe Mize fooled Rosman’s defenders for one of only several times dur ing the entire game and zipped over on a keeper from fifteen yards out. The kick for the ex tra point was wide, but Tryon led 13-0. In the fourth period, Ros man’s Jimmy Earl McCall got off by far the best play of the evening when he skirted his left end for 90 yards and the Tigers’ lone score of the eve ning. Jimmy Hall's pass for the two-point conversion was just over the out-st.retched hands of big Ralph Johnson, and the scoring for the night ROSMAN’S TIGERS moved for good yardage against Tryon last Fri day night, and one of the big ground gainers is pictured above. Rosman was impressive in defeat, losing to their powerful visitors 13-6 even though they out-passed and out rushed Tryon and had more first downs. Above, Rosman’s Tony 'Gantt (no. 15 in white jersey) moved for a big gain behind good blocking by Weldon Whitmire, no. 28, Jimmy Hall, no. 41, Alan Cassell, no. 64, and another unidentified Tiger. Ros man will host East Yancey at Ros man this Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. was concluded with Tryon winning 13-6. Coach Lee Powell had much praise for his defense in the contest, but commented that his offense Was not as sharp as he feels it will be from now on. He commented that he was pleasantly surprised at the fine play of t.wo offensive line men, junior guard Sammy Cathey and sophomore center Dean Myers. The Tigers will be at home again this Thursday night when they host East Yancey in an other non-conference clash. East Yancey won their opener last week when they decisioned Hot Springs 20-6, and another fine grid contest is expected from them at Ros man Thursday night. Rosman whipped East Yancey 40-14 last year, and the visitors are expected to go all out to gain revenge for that loss. The scouting report indicates that they have a good, solid football team. Another capacity crowd is expected to be on hand for the contest, which is slated to get underway at 8:00 p.m. Statistics Tryon Rosman First downs 7 10 Rushing yardage 129 152 Passing yardage 0 60 Return yardage 53 53 Passes 0-3-2 7-18-1 Punts 4-37 5-24 Fumbles lost 2 1 Yards penalized 50 20 Tryon _ 7 0 6 0—13 Rosman _ 0 0 0 6— 6 Big Autumn Golf Classic Set September 18 & 19, Etowah Valley A capacity number of 72 teams has sighed for the annual Autumn Classic at Etowah Val ley Golf Course.
