It is proposed that the league met once a month. Following initial organization, the meet ings would feature a guest ar tist who would explain and demonstrate his technique in a particular medium. . More Than 600 Students Are Now Enrolled (Continued From Page One) enough to support a public school. Brevard began as a “co operative enterprise,” ac cording to the late Dr. Eugene J. Coltrane, first president, and students and teachers worked together, quite literal ly, helping clean and even do ing constructive work on some of the buildings. Brevard is not a typical col lege town with town and school co-existing in a more or less peaceful truce atmosphere but the college is an integral part of the community, almost as much so as the public schools. This attitude also goes back to the early days of the in stitutes. One of Brevard Col lege’s most important func tions is to provide quality education for day students, according to Dr. Robert A. Davis, who became president in 1969. Dr. Davis, the sixth president of Brevard College^ was associ ate director of the United Meth odist Church’s Division of High er Education in Nashville, Tenn. before coming to Brevard. He is a native of Broxton, Ga„ and married to the form er Phyllis Clough of Douglas, Ga., and they have three chil dren. The Davis family has taken an active part in com munity life since they have been here and now feel this is their home. Dr. Davis stresses the col lege’s service to the community and its ability and desire to maintain a personal interest in each student. He says future plans for the 138-acre campus include expansion in order to enroll several hundred more young people than the approxi mately 600 now enrolled. “But.” he added, “we plan to continue as a very good two-year school rather than expand to a university. Our philosophy is student, and teaching oriented; and, we feel communication is better individually if our institution doesn’t grow too large.” Future plans also include seminars and meetings to in volve the community, a con tinuing education program for adults and encouraging more lay students to enroll CUSTOM FRAMING Art n Craft iritis Aduft & Children's Classes *" Monday Thuradaj > 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ■ 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ay 6:30 p.m- to 9:30 p.m. _ „ „ for INFORMATION CALL 14 N.
