Plea Is Made For Tutors For Brevard At The College Brevard Educational Student Tutors is a five-year-old or ganization of Brevard College students who voluntarily tutor students at Brevard Elementary School. A voluntary tutor gives about two hours each week to tutor students at the elementary school. He helps the student in whatever area the teacher says the student is weak. The vol untary tutor chooses his own two hours between the hours of 9 a. m. and 1:30 p. m. Any time later than 1:30 is not practical, since school is out about 2:45 p. m. He also chooses his own day or days, Monday through Friday. This is a very interesting and rewarding service. The ele mentary school needs peaple to help teachers with special cases and is very appreciative of our volunteer tutors. George Swearingen is a public health sanitarian. He works for you. George tracks down and destroys blood thirsty mosquitos on our lakes and property. Tocontrol the breeding areas and destroy larvae before they mature into menacing adults, he and his 11 crews patrol more than 2,000 miles of shoreline of Duke Power lakes. Duke Power's Environmental Health De partment crews use three standard methods to control larvae. They sometimes stock a lake with special minnows that feast on the "wiggle-tails." At other times they spray shallow coves with a light film of harmless oil without using insecticides. And in our forests they strive to eliminate the dumping of garbage and trash in which untold miflions of mosquitos may breed. Since starting one of the first mosquito control programs in the Carolinas in 1923, Duke Power has been making outdoor activi ties more enjoyable. It's another way we’re helping to make this a better place to live. Duke Power Making life a little better The regular monthly meeting of the Cedar Mountain Com munity Club which is usually held on the third Tuesday has been postponed until the fourth Tuesday, the 28th, because of some conflicting meetings. Be sure to mark this on your calen dars. Work begins at Rocky Hill Baptist church on the new building program on Saturday morning. All men are to be there bright and early and the ladies are expected to bring lunch to feed them. Let’s all work hard to finish this most needed project. The Boy Scouts of Cedar Mountain enjoyed last weekend at Crescent Beach, S. C. They were taken on the trip by Bill Johnson, Alvin Jones and John McDaris. The boys earned the money Tor the trip themselves. Jim Elliott and son Michael of Exton, Pennsylvania, were guests of the Boyce Bishops last Monday night. Michael will be a student at Ben Lippen School for Boys in Asheville this year. Our best wishes went with Patty Lee as she left Tuesday for Furman University where she will be a freshman this year. Oh our sick list this week we find Mrs. Olivia Sebastian who is in the hospital. We hope she will be much better soon. Mrs. M&ry Jones is home after having surgery on her foot last week. We wish for her a speedy recovery also. Recent weekend guests of the Boyce Bishops were Mr. and Mrs. Norwood T. Hester and daughters, Pamela and Becky of Greenville, S. C. Congratulations are in order for Mr. and Mrs. Mike Whitson, tvho are the proud parents of a new baby boy. oufly considering any form of a personal helping profession can learn some good insights into the helping processes by this service. Obviously, for any one who is interested in seeing if teaching is for him this is a good beginning. One needn’t worry over his ability to do this; having been through ele mentary school, he already knows more than enough in any subject area. So be of the BEST, volunteer to tutor. There will be a meet ing of the BEST people in Mr. Tawney’s office, McL-G., 205, at ?:30 p. m. on Monday, Sep tember 20th. The average capital invest ment per worker in U.
