Together with Faculty moeeer Team Upset By The Brevard Tornadoes It all started on Thursday night, September 9, at six o’clock p. m. when the All Amcrican faculty took on the Brevard College soccer team on both teams’ home field. The score, 1-0, does not re flect the soccer team’s over whelming victory or the facul ty’s stiff backs and sore legs the following morning. Action throughout the game was swift and exciting on both sides, although the faculty did seem to slow down a bit in the waning minutes of play due to their lack of depth and the un conditioned shape of the ma jority of the faculty squad. They seemed ready for a breath er after the pre-game warm ups. Head soccer coach Hugh Mo ran headed the faculty squad with coaches Larry Burch and Norm Witek, Professors Wan namaker Hardin, David Hol combe, Jim Blackwell, Bill Knott and other well - known players rounding out the team. Stars for the soccer team included Jerry Tuttle, Tim Chance, Harley Smith, John Warlick, Ed Wallace, Larry Swift, and Doug White. A crowd of nearly 150 watch ed the All - American faculty taste their first defeat in the history of the squad. So to celebrate victory, the soccer team had a short scrimmage after the game. Although Thursday night’s game was all in fun, the soccer team starts its official season next Tuesday at Asheville where they’ll meet U.N.C.A. PRESIDENT ROBERT A. DAVIS prepares to block a shot by a member of the soccer team.
