Can poor fit be responsible
for Athlete’s Foot?
In a study conducted by
New York University School
of Medicine, it was conclud
ed that foot injuries such as
blisters, caused by illfitting
footwear, may lead to fungus
infections.
One hundred volunteers
(some whose feet were kept
in healthy condition prior to
testing, and others whose feet
were deliberately inqured)
were used in the study. The
volunteers were subjected
to direct contact with the
fungus that causes athlete’s
foot. Many of the men and
women with injured feet

Flower Focus on many good
gardens: In Brevard, at Mrs.
Walker Millner’s, 402 E. French
Broad St., colossal-sized Glori

created a sensation among flow

In Cherryfield, at the Brisco
Whitmire’s, Heavenly Blue mor

of glorious bloom climbing a
wire and pole up to nearly fifty
feet! A beautiful sight to be
hold.
At the Bill Owen’s, a sweep of
spectacular color was captured
with choice plant varieties in
the house-side gardens.
At the Gene Matthews home,
the brightest, most exciting
colors imaginable in flower
beds and borders with Joseph’s
coat, sultana, begonias, agera
tum, etc.
At the D. S. Winchester’s, a
breathtaking display of glowing
colors in the marvelous flowers
grown in planters and borders.
At Mrs. Ruth Deitz, a blaze
9f bloom all year but the frilly
gladioli won my heart.
In Ioann, at the Elmo
Crowe’*, the garden has been a
cataract of color all summer.
Especially prise winners were
the luxuriant geraniums.
In closing, I’d like to bring
you a poem written by Mrs. Her
bert F. Flack, Fieldcrest, Bre

lands ....
The Woodlands becken you to
Nature
To partake of all her beauty and
charm
She will reveal her hidden
secrets
To all those who seek her
charm.
Her many creatures find their
shelter
Their food and rest amid her
boughs
They know her secrets and her
wisdom
And live protected to carry on.
Oh, would I also learn her
secrets
To help me gain her wisdom
true
That I may share them with
others
Who yearn to like like wood,
lands do.
Get out into, and enjoy the
colorful, enchanting woodlands
now.
So long, gardeners!
