News From US Forest Service, Fire Training Held The Annual Fire Training Meeting was held last week. The main purpose of the meet ing is for Federal, State, and Private fire fighters to get together and learn new tech of fire fighting. Fire Control Technician Randall Kitchen and County Ranger Clark Grissom discussed last spring’s fire season. Randall said that although we have had many rainy days this summer the actual rainfall is low. We average 75 inches per year in this area and we have had only 31 inches thru October 1. A movie called “Fire vs. Fire” showed the use of fire to fight fire. The difference be tween backfire and burning out the line was illustrated. Following the movie, we were served a famous George Brown stew dinner cooked at the fire field kitchen set up at the Forest Service work center. This weekend looks like a good one to view the fall colors. Everyone is invited to stop in at the Cradle of Forestry on their way up the mountain. MlHINHm. By LESTER L. It is almost impossible to predict exactly where people sensitive to goldenrod and ragweed will be completely free of symptoms. Allergy “maps” of the Unit ed States compiled by the American Academy of Aller gies can predict where suf ferers might be assured a greater degree of comfort, if not complete control.
