C Elmo Crowe, who is in charge, invites the public to attend and also to note that the ' time has been changed from 7:30 to 7 o’clock. Halloween Queen Martha Elam was selected as Halloween Queen at the Hallo ween Carnival Saturday night. Joyce O’Shields was the run ner; up. Proceeds will be used for Athletics at Rosman High School. Phil Gillespie served as chairman. Both Mr. Gillespie and mem bers of the Boosters club, spon sor of the event, would like to thank all workers, persons mak ing donations or anyone who assisted in the activity. ' < Mrs. Rice Dies Funeral services for Mrs. Inez P. Rice, 83, who died Oct. 14th, were held Oct. 16th in Kannapolis. A native of Spartanburg, S. C., she and her husband re sided in Rosman several years prior to moving to Kannapolis. Survivors include the hus band, Ro Rice, and one son, Lewis Waddell, of Columbia, S. C. Attending the funeral ser vices from Brevard were Mrs. Wiley Meece. and Mrs. Pat Gal loway and son Jeffery. ^ * iw * iHoiore^ The Crusatlfers, a* group of BA's; of Zion Baptist Church, honored Mr^i A. M. White dur ing the Sunday School Sunday. She was honored as being the oldest senior citizen of the church. Pharr and her brother-in law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Paxton, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Leonard and children of Burlington were weekend guests of Mrs. Leonard’s mother,. Mrs. J. L. Gillespie. Mrs. C. C. Garren and daugh ter Mrs. H. G. Bailey were Sun day guests of Mr, and Mrs. R. H. Russell in Waynesville. Sunday guests of Mr. - and Mrs. Talmadge Brooks were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Knight and children of Clarkesville, Ga„ and Rev. Orman Knight and son Joe of Cornelia, Ga. The Rev. Knight spoke at the 11 o’clock service at the JEast Fork Baptist church. He has served as a missionary to Ma nila, Philippine Islands, for several years. Mr Jordon was a life-long resident of Tran sylvania County. He was a vet eran of World War II and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brevard. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ward of Hen dersonville, and one neice. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11:00 A. M. in the Chapel of Frank Moody Funeral Home. Rev. Orion Hutchinson officiated and buri al followed in Jordon family cemetery on Jordon Road. The American Legion Post No. 88 served as pall bearers. Frank Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. were Sunday dinner guests of the latter’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Alli son near Brevard. The dinner was given in honor of Mrs. Matthews’ birthday anniversary. Eugene King, Jr., returned home Thursday after spending two weeks in Edgewood, Md., with his brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pro cell. Ghana and Gregory Lusk of Pickens, S. C,, are spending several days with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Rains. CE-1 James Parker of Ft. BAvoir, Va., and John Parker of Greenwille, S. C., spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Parker. They were called here due to the death of their uncle, Earl Parker. C. A. Brooks returned Wed nesday to the home of his son in-law and daughter, Rev. and Mrs. F. A. Raines. He recently underwent surgery at Mountain Home Sanitarium, Fletcher. On Monday he was taken to the Brentwood Nursing Home in Asheville. Mrs Eva Jordan and Mrs. Arthur Whitmre were guests Friday of Mrs. Mary Jane Mc Call in the Gloucester section. Mrs. Ed Jones is undergoing treatment in Transylvania Com munity Hospital in Brevard. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rogers of Walhalla, S. C., were guests Satuday night of Mrs. Rogers’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Jamerson. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cassell, Jr., and son Allan spent the weekend in Rock Hill, S. C., with Mr. and Ms. Kenneth Cas sell. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gibson and sons Gregory and David of Florence, Ala., spent the week end with Mrs. Gibson’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Israel. Campbell Monday signed a proclamation designating October 31 through Novenfi»r 6, 1971, as Girl Scout F Person-to-Person Week. Perabn-to-Person Week is a nationfcjd$ rprogram to bring more girl members and adult voluntjegrjv into Girl Scouting and t* involve the community more jfully in Scouting activi ties. , In Brevard, the week will be markcjd by “Say Hello Day” and other [local activities. Thej Mayor, in h,is proclama tion, ialuted Girl Scouts of the United States of America and called' upon all citizens to join with them in their effort to make “a positive contribution to peace through the common bond of friendship and under standing among peoples.” He '[noted that, through their service projects in hospitals, day camps, child care centers and homes for the aged and their efforts to save the envir onment and to help eliminate prejudice, Girl Scouts have added strength to the total fabric of community life. He invited citizens to pledge to Girl Scouts their “whole hearted support, interest, and cooperaton so that increasing numbers of girls may be en riched by a program that bene fits us all." VA estimates that 265,000 guaranteed and insured loans (including 25,000 mobile homes) will be closed during fiscal year 1972. For Rubber Stamps Call The Transylvania Times 883-4250 Auxiliaries Of Rosman Fire Department Rescue Squad Busy The Ladies Auxiliaries of the Rosman Fire Department and Rescue Squad tire very busy these days with many different projects to raise money for a new fire truck and for Christ mas. Uppermost in everyone’s mind is to raise money to pay for a new fire truck. The La dies Auxiliary is busy with bake sales, ticket sales, beauty contests, etc All proceeds go to the new fire truck. There will be a bake sale Friday, November 5, at three o’clock in front of Louise’s Beauty Shop. The beauty contest is an an nual event. All contestants are members of the Fire Depart ment. Such BEAUTIES “you’ll never see.” The “Male” with the most votes wins. A penny a vote. The winner of the “Miss Fire Flame” contest will be crowned by the current Miss Fire Flame. The proceeds from the contest also goes to the fire truck. November 20th is the night of the big event, 7:30 at Rosman High School. The Rescue Squad Auxiliary is sponsoring a bingo party November 6th at the squad building. Proceeds from this benefit party go to the Ros man Rescue Squad. This year the Fire Depart ment and Rescue Squad Auxi liaries are combining forces to sponsor a Christmas Parade and fun time for the kiddies, with jolly old Saint Nick, Sun day, December 12th at 2 o’clock. They will also sponsor a Christmas House for the needy of the community. Anyone hav ing toys clothing, canned goods or anything else useful that could benefit the needy should get in touch with any member of the Rosman Rescue Squad or Auxiliary and they will be glad to pick them up.
