A vouth meeting was held ^ondav night with Mrs. Linda Chapman as leader. There were approximately 30 nresent and the officers for the coming Vear were elected. Congratulations to Miss fherrie Angela Watson; who was elected as Homecoming Oueen for the midgets football team. Cherie is the daughter of Mrs Helen Watson Fisher and the late Jackson Watson. The Homecoming game was plaved at Rosman, Oct. 25th with West Henderson, altho our midgets lost by one point <14 to 13.) It was a good game. Festival Director Herbert Rosen makes the presentation. The film, produced by the department, is entitled “They’re Leaving Us All The Time”. Our community scrapbook of this year’s grow th and achievements won first place in county competition. Cash awards totaled $155.00. Miss Cindi Rock, a senior at Rosman High School, was se lected to introduce the princi pal speaker, Rev. Thomas P. Owen, pastor of the North Tox away Baptist church. Cindi lives with her sister and broth er-in-law, Carol and Denny Han sen, in Sapphire. The awards dinner this year was a buffet catered by Ber ry’s. Attending the dinner from Sapphire - Whitewater com munity development club were the incoming community club president and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Denslow, the outgoing president and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Erick “Den ny” Hansen, George Blair, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Condon, Miss Susan Condon, Mr. and Mrs. Walter McNeely, Misses Jean and Gail McNeely. Mrs. Lois Youngblood is wearing a pretty star sapphire that she found locally and had cut and polished. Her husband, Stuart N. Youngblood, mount ed the gem for her. The Young blood’s have a very interesting display of their sapphires in Lois’s Leisure Wear Shop, and they are beginning to offer pieces of jewelry for sale that they have made. Have you seen the hooked rugs of original design that are being sold to benefit the building fund of the Lake Tox away Baptist Church? The de signs Created by Dorothy Mc Neely of Sapphire depict our local wildflowers. Lady Slip pers, Trillums and Dogwoods. The rugs are made locally from American Thread Sylvan Plant Thread yarns and are on display at the Sylvan Plant and at McNeely’s store at Lake Toxa way. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Dens low and Mrs. Marian Condon and Miss Susan Condon enjoy ed a picnic and sight-seeing trip on the Blue Ridge Park way on Tuesday afternoon. The four Erik Hansens and Miss Cindi Rock celebrated Den ny’s and Carol’s wedding an niversary at dinner at Laura’s on Oct. 23rd. Laura’s will be open for evening dinners by reservations with the regular breakfast and dinner hours from 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. con tinuing. Denny and Carol have added a new addition to their puppy family, another great dane puppy named “Jewel”. Mrs. Carol Hansen and Mrs. Hester Hansen were the lunch eon guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Stanley in Hendersonville on , Wednesday, Oct. 20th. Mr. and Mrs. Denny Mansen, Jean and Gail McNeely and Cindi Rock attended the Ros man football game at Mt. Hol ly Friday night. They spent the night down there and then celebrated Mr. Hansen’s birthday on Saturday with a trip to Greenville S. C., before coming home via White water road. Denny and Carol Hansen were elected treasurer of the Sylvan Squares instead of the Brevard Jaycees as was report ed in this column last week. They along with their fellow Jaycees are selling beautiful golden pumpkins with the pro ceeds going to the Jaycees Boys Home Fund of North Carolina. The new bridge over Horse pasture River is progressing on schedule and it is slightly in the muddy side no\v as some grading has been done with tractors to the approaches cf the construction. If we may of fer a suggestion, if you are driving a late model car on Whitewater Falls road, please park your car before crossing the bridge and walk across old bridge and check out the road. Gravel has been placed upon the road, but the road could still be soft due to recent rains. When in need of job printing, ■all Thp Transylvania Times TRY THE TIMES WANT ADS Will Hold Rites For Mrs. McCall Thursday At 2:00 Mrs. Ruth Emma McCall, age 77, of Whitmire Street, Brevard died Monday at Tran sylvania Community Hospital after a long illness. Surviving are five daughters^ Mrs. Eunice Blackwell of Hen dersonville, Mrs. Norma Jones of Rutherfordton, Mrs. Louise Stamey, Mrs. Naomi Cox and Mrs. Flora Bolt of Brevard; three sons, Robert G. and Thomas P. of Brevard, and James E. McCall of Henderson villp; two brothers, Clarence and William Redden of Hender sonville; a number of neices and nephews; 26 grandchildren; and a number of great-grand children. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, at 2:00 p. m. at the Brevard Church of God of which she was an active mem ber. The Rev. Joseph Hayes and Rev. A. L. Gardin will of ficiate. Burial will follow in the Little River cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clarence, Paul and Lewis Curlee, Dar ell Terry, Leanus Chappell and Bill Delk. The body will remain at the Funeral Home where the fam ily received friends at the Fun eral Home from 7:00 til 9:0ft p. m. Wednesday night, until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the services. When not at the fun eral home, the family will be at her home on Whitmire street.
