: Egg Publicity
; “If you give something away,
its worthless,” Allen empha
sized, “no matter what it’s real
value. This nation’s independ
ent poultrvmen are quite wil
ling to produce a product but
are unwilling to sell it. so their
product moves to market at a
loss.
. “In the U.S., we should have
as our goal an increase in egg
consumption to 730 per capita
at a market price of 50 cents
per pound or 75 cents per doz
en.”
Allen explained the market
share of the egg industry is
declining because people are
afraid to eat eggs, they eat
smaller breakfasts or no break
fast at all, and the cholesterol
Scare.
■ “Actually,” he said “no re
search has proved eggs are
detrimental to the diet and re
searchers the world over are
taking a second look at some
of the claims bv advocates of
polyunsaturated fats.
“Cereals, instant breakfast
and other ‘packaged’ meals are
giving considerable competition
to the egg industry.” Allen
said, “but price is not really im
portant to the consumer, even
at 75 cents per dozen, for ce
reals average about 80 cents
per pound and instant breakfast
about $1.50 per pound.”

By - Mrs. Kenneth Riley
CATHEY’S CREEK — We of
these parts have again under
gone a wet weekend. It seemed

The children were entertained
at Red Hill center on Sunday
afternoon because of the rain.
Ward Breedlove underwent
surgery on Sunday morning at
Mountain Home Sanitorium.
His leg was amputated above
the knee. Relatives visiting him
on Monday report him in pret

Sunday visitors of Mr. and
Mrs. Van Waldrop were Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Rogers, Mr. and
Mrs. Mitchell King and son
Ray Lon of Brevard.
Weekend visitors of Mr. and
Mrs. Charlie Green were Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Mull of Shelby.
Mrs. Opalee Duckworth left
Monday to visit her daughter
Mrs. Henry Snclson and family
at High Point.
Miss Betty Bradley, of Eto
wah, bride - elect of Roger
Nicholson, was entertained
with a household show'er at
Gaither’s Rhododendron room
on Tuesday night. We of this
section wish the lucky couple
much happiness and God’s rich

groom elect is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Nicholson, of
Route 2, Brevard.

Sylvan Squares, Canton And

A highly successful regular
Fourth Friday night dance was
held by the Sylva Squares on
October 22nd at the American
Legion Hall.
A large group of dancers
from the Pisgah Prominaders,
of Canton, were on hand to
dance to the calls of Richard
Silver and to carry their ban
ner back to Canton. A large
group from the Belles and
Beaus of Hendersonville, were
there to claim their banner,
leaving the wall looking rather
bare.
The Pisgah Prominaders will
dance November 6th at the
Waynesville Armory instead of
the Canton YMCA. They have
a real enthusiastic club, so
“Sylvan Squares, lets don’t let
them keep our banner beyond
their November 6th dance,” says
the president.
