Second Session Of Investment Course Will Be Held Monday The second session of the in vestment class on retirement income is scheduled for Mon day, November 8, from 7:30 to 9:30, Classes are meeting al Brevard Junior High annex. Skip Hunt, Vice President National Sales Manager of Mon tag & Caldwell, a money man agement firm from Atlanta, Georgia, will discuss the use of mutual funds as a source of re tirement income. Mr. Hunt is extremely well qualified in the money management field. It seemed Halloween was very quietly observed in our section as it was really too wet to enjoy any of the “Trick or Treat” fun. The children were entertained at Red Hill center on Sunday afternoon because of the rain. Ward Breedlove underwent surgery on Sunday morning at Mountain Home Sanitorium. His leg was amputated above the knee. Relatives visiting him on Monday report him in pret ty bad shape. Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Van Waldrop were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell King and son Ray Lon of Brevard. Weekend visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Green were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mull of Shelby. Mrs. Opalee Duckworth left Monday to visit her daughter Mrs. Henry Snclson and family at High Point. Miss Betty Bradley, of Eto wah, bride - elect of Roger Nicholson, was entertained with a household show'er at Gaither’s Rhododendron room on Tuesday night. A large group of dancers from the Pisgah Prominaders, of Canton, were on hand to dance to the calls of Richard Silver and to carry their ban ner back to Canton. A large group from the Belles and Beaus of Hendersonville, were there to claim their banner, leaving the wall looking rather bare. The Pisgah Prominaders will dance November 6th at the Waynesville Armory instead of the Canton YMCA. They have a real enthusiastic club, so “Sylvan Squares, lets don’t let them keep our banner beyond their November 6th dance,” says the president. The regular second Friday dance will be held on Friday, November 12th, at the Ameri can Legion Hall, beginning at 8:C0 p. m. Gordon Hoxit will be calling. Environmental Workshop Held On Brevard College Campus Twenty-five teachers and 50 students from High Schools in Western North Carolina were guests of Brevard Col lege on October 27 for a workshop on the environ ment, sponsored by the Di vision of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The program included the teachers discussing new cur ricula and teaching methods for biology, chemistry mathe matics and physics courses. A panel composed of Phil ip B. Wainwright, regional engineer, and Andy Carlton, both with the Air Quality Of fice; and William MuH, re gional engineer with the Wat er Quality Office. All three men are with the North Caro lina Department of Natural and Economic Resources. The panel discussed the moni toring and quality of water and air in the 29 counties of the western part of the state. Dr. Laurence R. Liggett, Di rector of the Cooperative Envir onmental Education Program for public schools in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Madison, Polk, and Transyl vania counties discussed the resources available through the Environmental Education Pro gram and the use of Deer Lake Lodge facility by schools. Howard Zeller of the Wat er Quality Division of the Environmental Protection Agency in Atlanta, Georgia, discussed the quality of the water in the southeastern states. He emphasized how mercury and pesticides are taken into the human body and their effect on the body. Dr. John P.
