The Transylvania Times j A. State And National Prize-Winning Home Town Newspaper SECOND CLASS POSTAGE PAID AT BREVARD. N. C. ZIP CODE 2B712 * Vo1- 84—No. 44 BREVARD, N. C., THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1971 * SECTION TWO * At Brevard College , Jack And Sally Jenkins Will * Appear In “I Do! I Do! ” Here The Mutual Concert Asso ciation’s Lyceum Series will present it’s second attraction of the 1971-72 season with a musical, “I Do! I Do!”, star ring Jack and Sally Jenkins. “I Do! I Do!” is presented through special arrange ment with Music Theatre In ternational, 119 West 57th Street New York, N. Y. 10019. The production will be held at Bevard College in Dun ham Music Center on No vember 9th at 8:15 p.m., ac cording to Nelson F. Adams, Chairman of the Lyceum Series for the College. Ever since it’s tumultuously enthusiastic opening night in New York in 1966, this “lyri cal propaganda piece for mar riage" has been a huge success, both during it’s two - season Broadway run with Mary Mar tin and Robert Preston as the spouses for 584 performances and during their 55 week na tional tour. This tour is starring Jack and Sally Jenkins as the af fectionate husband and wife acting and singing out the first 50 years of a satisfactory marriage. The popularity of “I Do! I Do!” was achieved against the odds of show business in the late 1960’s. For this is a musi cal that “accentuates the posi tive” when public taste seems to run toward plays, films and novels full of sour negativism, a disillusionment with the values Americans prized in previous generations. In a time when “black comedy” and “the theatre of the absurd” seemed to be the fashion, “I Do! I Do!” dared to invite audiences to believe again that marriage as an in stitution is o.k., that life it self, while sprinkled with dif ficulties, is on the whole o. k. Audiences from coast to coast it and responded with “We do, we do take delight in this show.” W<ck Jenkins was born in Chicago, Illinois of theatrical parents. Jack inherited his mu ♦ m JACK AND SALLY JENKINS sical ability from his mother and his rich baritone voice from his father and began his singing career at the age of 12 as a boy soprano. He audi tioned, and ultimately won, a music scholarship to the Uni versity of Tampa where he met his future wife, Sally. Sallv Jenkins was born in Westfield, New Jersey and began studying voice and flute at the age of thirteen. During her pre-college years she practiced long hours on technique and tone produc tion. She became an extra ordinarily capable musician both vocally and instrumen tallv. and was awarded a full scholarship to the Universi ty of Tampa. Sally and Jack received theiru bachelor of music degrees and set out to face the challenge of a ca reer in show business. Joining forces both profes sionally and maritally, they au ditioned and were given roles in the off - Broadway musical “Leave it to Jane.” Guy Lom bardo discovered them and of fered a year’s contract to them to perform with his Royal Ca nadian Orchestra on a nation al concert tour which included an appearance on his annual New Year’s Eve television 'how. Guest appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and the Mike Douglas Show were soon to follow. They have starred to gether at some of the country’s more reputable regional thea tres, playing lead roles in “Ca rousel”, “Kismet”, “Pajama Game” and “Brigadoon”. Dwight Sterd, Jr. Executor of the Estate of Beulah Mae Glazener ll/4/4tc p« PatUnon What makes the heels of my shoes run over? If one could see the skeleton heel bone of his foot, he would realize it isn’t in the center line of his leg bone, the tibia, but slightly to the outside of center. With every step, as the heel strikes the ground, the force is exerted at the outside - rear corner of the shoe heel or top lift. That’s why 9 out of 10 people wear down their heels in that place. In fact, if ^he primary point of wear is in the cen ter of the heel, or on the in side, you can suspect some thing is at fault with the foot, or sometimes with the shoe or fit of the shoe. Many customers see run ning over of the heels as some fault of the shoe, but wearing down of the heel at the outside - rear corner is normal.
