farmer may offer to set-aside
still another 5 per cent or 1(
per cent of his corn or grair
sorghum base acreage. The sec
retary of agriculture will an
nounoe by mid-March whethei
to accept any of the additional
acreage. This will give the sec
retary greater flexibility in re
ducing acreage to make the pro
gram most effective.

William McKinley Owen, age
77, of Pisgah Forest died, last
Thursday in Transylvania Com
munity Hospital. He was a re
tired farmer and a veteran of
World War I. He was born in
Jackson county but has resided
in Transylvania county most of
his life.
Survivors include the wife
Julia Mae Owen; two step
, daughters, Mrs. Ethel Kil
patxtek, of Brevard, and Mrs.
Corlee BtnfOrd, of Homestead,
Florida; two step sons, Arthur
Riddle, of Lake Toxaway, and
Oscar Riddle, of Brevard; two
brothers, Sam Owen, of Balsam
Grove, and Henson Owen of
Edneyville; one sister, Mrs.
Viny Shelton, of Brevard; 30
grandchildren; and 13 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Saturday in the Shoal Creek
Baptist church, and burial fol
lowed in the church cemetery.
Rev. Bert Dotson and Rev. R. E.
Moody officiated.
Pallbearers were James De
board, Earl, Leonard, and L. C.
Owen, Donald Kilpatrick and
Edward Galloway
Frank Moody Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.
