At the right is Bill Knisley, United Fund Chairman at the center. (Times Staff Photo) DDC Part Of 4-H Automotive The National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course is to be offered in the national 4-H Automotive program. The joint announcement was made by E. Dean Vaughn, assistant adminis trator, 4-H Youth, ES„ USDA, and Harold Hendreth, director Of youth department, National Safety Council, following rec ommendations of the National 4-H Automotive Program De velopment Committee. The 8-hour block of instruc tions for the DDC offers an op t portunity for teen drivers to f become more aware of pro v blems facing them on the high I way and helps prepare them to 1 handle the^e situations c ii This combination program i! can provide excellent short t, term 4-H involvement for youth r and may be a family venture with both youth and adults be ing taught in the same session. Possibilities are tremendous for reaching new 4-H audi ences, says Vaughn. What Is A Leader? It has been said that a true leader is one who helps the groups achieve what it believes is important. A true leader: 1. Is sensitive to others. He understands the different needs of each 4-H’er and encourages him to fulfill his needs within the group. I s,2.i Can help others define their goals and reach them. He has a clear idea of what the group can achieve, can help members set realistic goals and inspire them to plan and work together to attain their objec tives. 3. Shares responsibility with others. He helps club members share ideas and talents and as sume leadership roles for which they are qualified. 4. Place greater value on “We Bid It” than “I Did It.” He helps each 4-H’er complete his job so that the entire club ef fort can succeed; then the lead er steps aside while others re ceive he applause. Leaders are made, not born, and 4-H offers you the oppor tunity to transform yourself into a creative, decisive, inspir ing person others will want to, follow. County Council The 4-H County Council will meet November 23 at the Bre Singing At Oak Grove The regular third Saturday night singing will be held at Oak Grove Independent Baptist rhurch on Saturday, November 20th, at 7;00 o’clock. Laugh Corner At a luncheon party, an ac tress, noted for her sarcasm, looked significantly at a retir ed heroine who said: “I dread to think of life at 45.” “Why,” replied the actress, “what happened then?” A clock is something they have in an office so you can tell how late you wish you weren’t in the morning, what time to go out for lunch and coffee breaks before and come back after, and how long be fore you can start stopping work by stalling until. A fighter trying to save face after losing a fight: “Boy, did I have that guy worried in the third round.” Manager: “You sure did. He thought he killed you.” “It’s lovely,” said the blonde of her friend’s engagement ring. “And isn’t it nice to know that you aren’t marrying a spendthrift?” vard Davidson River Presby terian Church at 7:30 p.m. All Council members and 4-H’ers are urged to attend. 4-H Records Due Records are past due and should be turned into your lo cal 4-H leader or the Extension j Office. 4-H Scholarships A number of scholarships are available for high school juniors or seniors.
