The District Luncheon for the winners of the Good Citizen Award was held Sat urday, Nov. 13th, at Battery Park Inn. Mrs. LeVally and Mrs. DuLaney accompanied the winners and their moth ers, from Brevard and Bos nian. Mrs. LeVally presented the medals. Following the meeting, de lightful coffee, punch, finger sandwiches, nuts and cheese wafers were served in the lovely diningroom, decorated with fall fruit. The members were remind ed that the December Meet ing will be a Dutch Treat luncheon at the Henderson ville Country Club at 1:00 pjn., on Tuesday, December 14th. Alpha Phi Has Meeting The Alpha Phi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met at the home of Mrs. Joyce Rog ers on Far Hills Terrace last Tuesday for their regular monthly meeting. Patti Rogel, president, pre sided over the business meet ing. Letters were again sent to Hanoi asking for the re lease of prisoners of war. Various committee reports were given. Waldron Rogers gave the educational program on fon due cooking. He demon strated his cooking by making a most delicious desert for Alpha Phi. Joye was the winner from the Waightstill Avery Chap ter of Brevard. She was ac companied by her mother, Mrs. Summey and Mrs. Charles S. DuLaney, Jr., Regent of the Chapter and Mrs. John R. LeVally, Chair man of the Good Citizen’s Award Committee. To be eligible for this high honor a girl must possess outstanding qualities in De pendability, Service, Leader Fortnightly Club Meets The regular meeting of the Brevard Fortnightly Club was held on November 10 at the home of Mrs. J. R. Hamlin. A business meeting was held before the craft demonstra tion by Mrs. Frank King. Mrs. Charles Spaunbauer reported that Christmas House is now collecting items to be used this year. All types of items, new or old, may be given for use in this project. Money is also re quested in order to purchase new items. On December .14, several members of the club will at tend the “Christmas Wrap” at the Oteen Hospital and wrap Christmas presents for the veterans. ion i A very interesting pro gram oii ceramics was pre sented by Mrs. King. She is well known for the beautiful items she has made and the many awards she has won. She demonstrated the steps necessary to have a finished piece of ceramics. At the end of her demonstration, each member was ready to join one of her classes and experience this creative hobby for her self. The next meeting will be held , on December 8, at the home of Mrs. Jack Johnson. She is a member of the Cherryfield Baptist Church and sings in the choir. Mathatasian Club Meets The hostess served a de licious dessert course. GIVE Mrs. J. B. Jones was host ess for the November 10th meeting of the Maithatasian Book Club. Sixteen members were present. Mrs. Randal Lyday, Vice President, presided. She urged members to purchase new books before the first meeting in January. Mrs. A1 Watson was appointed Book Chairman for next year. Mrs. Ed English, program leader for the afternoon, in troduced Jerry Purser, Coun ty Extension Agent, who pre sented a most timely program on Conservation. He showed slides which had been com piled by John Harris, a Tar Heel Landscape Gardner, en titled “The Choice is Yours”, emphasizing road side beauti fication. FUND MISS JOYE SUMMEY Today's Club Holds Meeting The Today’s Extension Homemakers club met with Mrs. Glen Echols on Thurs day, November 12, at 10:00 a.m. One visitor and 12 mem bers were present for the meeting. Miss Jean Childers present ed a very interesting and in formative program on making Christmas decorations, par ticularly wall and door hang ings. Most of the decorations were made from discarded items found around the home or inexpensive purchased items. Mrs. Echols presided over the business meeting. Benson fruitcakes were distributed .to the members for sale. A workshop on crochet jewelery was planned for November 30, 9:00 ajn. at the home of Mrs. Larry Prince. The meeting adjourned with the reading of the club collect. VFW Auxiliary Holds Meeting The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 4309 held their monthly meeting Monday night, November 8th, at the 8th, at the Post home on Nicholson Creek road. The meeting was called to order by President Velma Talley at 7:30 o’clock in the evening. The members were honored with a visit by the 17th Dis trict President Daphane Wad dell from Canton, who brought greeting from the 17th District. At the conclusion of the business session. President Waddell drew the winning ticket for the 14" color, port able T.V. the Auviliary was giving away. The tilcky ticket No. 305 was held by Author BishofM 214 Park View Drive. The Auxiliary will have their next meeting December 13th, at 7:30 p.m. Ladies that are interested in joining the Auxiliary are asked to get in touch with any Auxiliary member for information about doing so.
