Rober son's Rams opened their 1971-72 prep basketball season with a convincing 72-60 triumph Tues day night over Brevard’s Blue Dqvils. The Rams, with Richie Size more and Tommy Franklin do ing much of the offensive dam —( age, opened up a 19-10 advan tage early and maintained 15 to 20-point leads throughout most of the game until the Blue Devils closed the gap late in the final stanza. Brevard won the girls game, 52-42, as three players hit in double figures. The Blue Devil girls withstood a 24-point per Brevard College Library Now Pisplaying 10 Nativity Scenes The. Brevard College Library is displaying seven nativity scenes from far and near. Each creche is very unique. They range from hand-made ceramic figures to German hand-painted wooden carvings. There are Appalachian moun tain corn - shuck characters, primitive Paraguayan Indian pottery images, and abstract wooden statues, as well as Italian and American conven » tional nativity figures. On display also an informa tive “Moravian Christmas” fea ture board. Christmas would not be com plete without a tree, and Mr. 1 and Mrs. Charles B. Disher of Brevard donated a 10-foot , Christmas tree which has been decorated by the library staff, assistants and faculty members. The public is invited to view the displays. C Brevard Places Eleven On Parkway Division All-Conference Squad Brevard’s Bine Devils domi nated the all-conference selec tions announced last week by the coaches of the Parkway Division of the Mountain AAA Conference. Coach Ed Emory’s team, edged out for the conference title by the Enka Jets in the last game of the season, placed eleven players on the honor squad, and most of them were unanimous selections. Six Blue Devils were named to the offensive all-confer ence team, and these includ ed Shrine Bowl bound Darius Holtzclaw, end; thousand yard plus gainer Jacob Norman, running back; Speedy Wayne Robinson, flanker, who was named inspite of being in jured most of the year; Ron nie Whitmire, tackle; Steve Morgan, guard; and Denny Griffin, who was named to the honor squad at quarter back even though he missed the last half of the season with a shoulder separation. On defense Brevard placed rom Shipman at tackle, Ronnie Banther at end, Mitchell Burr it linebacker, and Dwight looper at defensive halfback. College Cagers Win Third Straight, Defeat Hiwassee Ricky McClure netted a thrice point play with 50 seconds feft in the game to give Brevard College an 87-04 lead and the Tornadoes went on to capture a 91-88 victory over Hiwas£$e College Monday night r Leading Brevard to its third victory without a loss was George Hester with 24 points followed by McClure with 28, Bob Miller with 14 and Bill Me Clain with 10. From a 46-46 tie at halftime Bfevard took the lead and held H until Hiwassee tied the score at 71-71 with 5:29 left in the contest. This set the stage for McClure who hit clutch free throws and baskets in the dos ing minutes to spearhead the Victory. Brevard traveled to Mon treat-Anderson on Wednesday.
