Brevard POD Class Urging The POD class at Brevard high, under the direction of Mrs. Gil Coan, Jr., has begun -a voter campaign to get the 18 to 20 year-olds registered in Transylvania County. It was stated in last week’s Times that students would be registered at the high school in February. This is in error. Ard says the members of the Board will assist students in anyway they can, and he plans seminars, etc., at the high school. Various committees have been formed at the high school to inform the students of their rights and responsi bilities now granted in a rul ing by the United States Su preme Court. The Court has ruled that all states must allow persons 18 to 20 years old to register and vote in r'l local, state, and na tional c, .tions. Since the rul ing went into effect on Jan. 1 of this year, approximately only 25 young people have registered in Transylvania. Qualifications far voting in North Carolina include that the person must be a citizen of the U. S. and a resident of this state for at least one year and of his voting precinct for 30 days Each registrant is re quired to present his birth certificate, driver’s license, or other proof which i dicates 18-20 Year Olds To Register his date of birth. To be eligible to vote in the May 5 election of next year in Transylvania County, a person must have registered by April 14, three weeks prior to the election. However, no person shall be allowed to register who has not yet reached his 18th birthday. Students shall not be regis tered where they are tempor arily residing while attending a business school, trade school, college, or university. They are eligible to vote in the county or state of their legal residence if they apply for an absentee ballot. This may be done by requesting an application form from the County Board of Elections in the county of their residence. This must be done no more than 45 days and no less than 5 days prior to any general election. 3 * -«*»*• To register in Transylvania County, a person must present himself to the County Board of Elections in the Courthouse. Upon showing proof of his age, he may register any of four ways according to his political affiliations. Sluder, , recorded in Deed Book 153. Mrs. Galloway Buried Sunday Mrs. Sena Sphronia Anders Galloway, age 87, of Rosman died at her home last Tuesday evening following a long illness. Survivors include one daugh ter, Miss Zora Galloway, of Ros man; one son. Avery Galloway, also of Rosman; one brother, Jule Anders, of Brevard; seven grandchildren; five great-grand children; and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Sunday at the Zion Baptist church in Rosman. Reverend J. K. Pressley and Reverend E. C.
