Pleased Over Winning First In Contest

LITTLE RIVER — Little
River Community was a happy
grtfOp of people last Saturday
when they were named first
place winners in Division C in
the 1971 Western North Caro
lina Community Development
Program contest at the 22nd an
nual awards luncheon in Ashe
ville City Auditorium.
Those attending the luncheon
were more than glad to bring
back to those awaiting at home
a plaque and $400.00. This is
the third time Little River has
won since the beginning of the
contest.
This is something that takes
cooperation and the officers of
the club would like to thank
each and every one that helped
to make this possible.
Club Meets
The Little River Community
Club will meet Thursday night,
Dec. 16, at the community cen
ter beginning at 7:30. The
President Morris Hawkins in
vites everyor.e to attend and
bring the children. There will
be a Christmas tree with
goodies for the children and re
freshments.
A Christmas pageant, “They
Came Bearing Gifts,” will be
presented and everyone is
asked to bring a gift of canned
food, clothing, money or any
thing that could be used for the
Christmas House in Brevard.
This is a worthwhile cause so
come out and help us make
Christmas happy for some less
fortunate children in our coun
ty.
Family and friends gathered
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Mackey Sunday for a
birthday dinner for Mr. Edd
Mackey who celebrated his
birthday.
Those attending from homes
out of the community were Mr.
and Mrs. Duke Russell, Mrs.
Pat Russell and son Richard
from Clyde, Mrs. Marie Bryson,
Mr. and Mrs. Rector from Can
ton, Mrs. Hattie Jones from
Candler and Scott Rector from
Blantyre.
Little River Baptist church
has been very successful in
raising iffondy to buy a tractor
fqp Broyhill Childrens Home,
which was delivered recently.
Mr. and Mrs. George Hudgins,
Mrs. Louise Raines* Melinda
and Bryan all attended the
sixty fifth wedding anniversary
celebration Sunday of Mr. Hud
gin’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben
Hudgins of Mill Springs which
was held in Sunny View Com
munity Center. Over a hundred
people signed the register.
We are very glad to have Mr.
and Mrs. Dale Blythe living in
the community. They have
bought the Will Farmer home.
Mrs. Blythe will be remember
ed as Martha Sue Mackey.
Congratulations to Rhonie
Fowler who made Dean’s list at
\sheville-Buncombe Technical
Institute.
After selling his home, Will
Farmer left Monday to make
bis home with his son Carl in
Butler, Indiana.
Sherri Woody recently gradu
ated from East Tennessee State
University with honors.
