Lake Toxaway Men's Club Installs New Officers

Youth group of the Lake Toxa
way Community Club had a
well-attended Christmas party
Saturday evening, December 11
at the Community Center.

was the arrival of Old Santa

good time of fellowship was en
joyed by everyone of every age
group. Proceeds from the sale
of food will be used by the

On Sunday, December 19, at
7:00 o’clock p.m. the Young peo
ples’ classes of the North Tox
away Baptist church presented
a program of music, Christmas
carols and scripture passages at
the church. Treats of fruits,
candy and nuts were given to
each of the children present.
Gift certificates had been pre
sented to the sick and shut-ins
and the elderly people in the
Community. Rev. Tommy Owen
is pastor of the church.
Our community was saddened
to learn of the death of “Uncle”
Tolvin Miller in a S. C. hospital
Saturday night, December 18.
He formerly lived in our com
munity and was loved by all
who knew him. We extend our
deepest sympathy to the mem
bers of his family.
We also extend our deepest
sympathy to the family of Louie
Miller who passed away Friday
morning, December 17th, at the
Transylvania Community hos
pital. He was a life-long resi
dent of Lake Toxaway.
Also we extend sympathy to
the family of Mrs. Emily M.
Fisher who passed away in High
Point on Wednesday of last
week.

From Navy
Gary Byrd, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Bvrd of 336 Apple
Tree Street, Brevard has just
returned home after serving
?lrro.-t thrpe years in the United
States Navy.
He joined the Navy in Febru
ary 1968 and took his basic
training in San Diego, Calif. He
transferred to Aviation Elec
tronics School in Memphis,
Tenn.
While there he was a Sgt.
Major of the Flying Rifle Drill
Team, which is flown to all
Darts of the United States for
Navy and Marine Ceremonies.
He transferred to Naval Air Sta
tion, Lemore, California, where
he remained for further in
structions for 18 months.

where he was an instructor at l
