Officials Are Pleased
United Fund Exceeds Goal,
Over $59,000 Is Reached
^Transylvania’s United Fund
goal of $55,266 for 1972 is
now “oyer the top”. To date,
over $59,060 has been re
ceived.
Just after it was reported in
last week’s Transylvania Times
that nearly $1,000 was needed
to reach the goal, officials and
employees of Connestee Falls
Development Corporation com
pleted their canvass and report
ed to UF President Earle John
son.
According to William T.
Hunter, Vice President and
Controller, the 104 employees
pledged and donated approxi
mately $4,000 to Transyl
vanla’s United Fund.
“We are delighted that all of
our employees came through in
such a grand style,” Mr. Hunter
told the United Fund President.
This outstanding donation 'S’
made it possible for the goal
to be reached, as well as giv
ing the UF a surplus to meet
emergencies that might arise
during the year.
President Johnson, is express
ing appreciation to the Connes
tee Falls group, said he also
wanted to thank all other per
sons who gave to the 1972
United Fund.
He is appreciative for the
fine efforts of many people
who served as solicitors dur
ing the recent campaign.
He released the following
statement to The Times:
The successful completion
of the United Fund drive is a
fine achievement for our en
tire Transylvania County com
munity. Both personally, and
on behalf of the Board of Di
rectors of the United Fund, I
wish to express sincere appre
ciation to all who had a part
in reaching and surpassing
our goal. The dedicated work
of the solicitors and the gen
erous response of the citizens
of our county have enabled us

On Sale Here Next Tuesday
The 1972 license plates will
go on sale here and through
out the state on January 4,
1972.
The License Tag Office, 26
W. Jordan Street, Brevard will
be open at 9:00 until 5:00 Tues
day, January 4 for the sale of
the 1972 plates. Office hours
will be 9:00 to 9:00 Monday
through Friday each week. The
office is closed on Saturday^.

Collins Seeking House Seat
As A Democratic Candidate

has announced as a candidate
for the 1973 General Assembly
in the Democratic primaries
next year from the Buncombe
Transylvania county 43rd House
District.
Hr. Collins, 39, has been em
ployed 20 years in Southern
Bell Telephone Company’s
Asheville plant department and
was named commercial repre
sentative far Bell’s Bupcombe
County operations in I960.

Brevard Chamber of Com
merce is urged to vote for
new directors prior to the
meeting on January 11th in
the Library.
According to Dr. Milton
Massey, the president, a 40
man board will be elected at
that time when the ballots
will be tabulated.
Officers for the New Year
will be elected at a call meet
ing on the following Tues
day night, from the newly
elected board.
The year 1972 promises to
be a busy one for the Bre
vard Chamber of Commerce,
and President Massey urges
the members to select per
sons who are vitally interest
ed in the community prog

gency flood insurance program.
The Congressman quoted
HUD Officials as saying that
Rosman became qualified under
the program when it agreed to
adopt land use and control'
measures that will minimize
flood damage to future con
struction.
The HUD sources said local
insurance agents may obtain
policies and other information
from the National Flood In
surers Association servicing of
