Insidious Sitter inelMit (mb M Tw») • » only Because their parents spend tar too little time installing a balanced value system in their children. Television is a great way to beep the kids from whooping and running through the house. It is also a great way to benumb the young, inquiring mind and staturaba it » with triva. A high school graduate will have seen 350,000 television commercials during his formative years. That alone is cruel and ; unusual punishment “Over the past two decades, the histori cal primacy of parents and teachers has been usurped Dy the electronic intruder,” the re port says. Hie whole situation is a grave indict ment of parents too lazy or uncaring to spend time imparting to their children the kind of values they’ll need to cope with an increasing-complex world. If we wonder why Johnny can’t read, if we wonder why high school and college graduates have distressing areas of ignor ance, we would do well to examine how much time the youngster spent with his parents and how much time he spent with the elec tronic baby-sitter.
