Lutherans Off To A Good Start
In The New Year, Service Set
The New Year worship at the
Lutheran Church of the Good
Shepherd was marked by hope
and inspiration as indicated by
the message of the minister was
declared that he had great hope
for The Family of God and
could not buy the sentiments
expressed by a leading politi
cal figure who said, “Our world
is finished. I’ve given up. I’m
just going to try to enjoy what
time we have left”.
Rather said the minister, “I
fear that Christians may suc
cumb to the worldly code in
which secondary loyalties take
.the place of a primary loyalty
to Jesus Christ; personal
achievement, not service, is ac
cepted as the criterion of
greatness, and honesty and sin
cerity are no longer considered
paramount”.
The worship concluded with
the administration of the Lord’s
Supper, during which Pastor
Lewis Thornburg expressed
the hope that this Communion
Service would have lasting
meaning for each communicant.
Next Sunday the officers of
the Lutheran Church Women
will be installed during the
morning worship. Those per
sons elected for this service
during the coming year are:
Mrs. O. A. Hofmann, president;
Mrs. Harry Hyatte, vice-presi
dent; Mrs. Fred Corson, secre
tary; Mrs. John Boggess, treas
urer; Mrs. Wendell Brown,
Outreach and fellowship; Mrs.
Chester Cummings, Christian
action; ar.d Mrs. George Wil
son, faith and life.
World Missions will be the
emphasis during the month of
January, with major concern
given to the commission of the
Church to go into all the world
w'ith the message of peace,
hope, love and salvation.
A most cordial invitation is
extended to everyone, and espe
cially those who have no church
home in the community, to
share in the worship.
—"fr—
A very important meeting of
the officers of The Lutheran
Church Men will be held at the
Church next Sunday afternoon
at 4:00 o’clock. Those who will
be involved are: Chester Cum
mings, Jim Leinsterv Lawrence
James and John Rhyne.
