Eleven Rules On Reaching
The Young
It’s obvious that there is a
vast profit potential in the
young market today. With this
in mind, here is a list of 11
rules to serve as a quick self
audit of your thinking on the
young.
1. Talk the words you’d like
to hear and nobody out there
will be listening. You must meet
them on their own terms.
2. Get outside your obsolete
environment and discover the
new world.
3. Young people are suspici
ous of you; don’t try to sell
them your values and your life
style.
4. Expose yourself and your
management to young people’s
thinking. Shut up and listen.
5. The young nose is particu
larly sensitive to the acrid smell
of hypocrisy.
6. While youth revels in
change, most adults wallow in
a sorry sameness. Keep from
being dated.
7. Innovation may be painful,
but sameness is excruciating.
8. Latch onto a fad that
you’re aware of and you’re al
ready six months out of date.
9. A subtle new word-image
dimension has replaced hot
copy and art So start making
messages, stop making commer
cials and ads.
10. If you are doing your job,
H should be the bridge between
your values and theirs.
11. Execute your self with as
much freshness and originality
as other influences youth is ex
posed to.
