Successful Victory Dinner Held By United Fund Leaders Lttfcn ot the Transyl 'mh County United Fond recently held n successful Victory dinner In the Brevard College cafeteria with more than M peraona attending. President Earle Johnson pre sided over the meeting, and he thanked all workers and all per sons who gave. It was the most successful United Fund cam paign ever held in Transylvania with more than $59,000 being raised. The goal was $55,288. Dr. Robert A. Davis, Presi dent of Brevard College, also expressed sincere appreci ation for the untiring efforts of so many people. Dr. Davis is a past president of the United Fund. President Johnson was pre sented with a plaque for his outstanding efforts during the past year. Awards were presented to the following for their out standing work during the 1972 campaign: Miss Emily Knotts William Hunter Olin Corporation Brevard College Du Pont American Thread RCA - NASA ] Mitchell Bissell Company Snyder Spring Company Daring the which fell*wed the acted. Mr. Johnson will continue to aenre as president for the time being, and he was also named as an advisor to the Executive Board. Other members are: 1st Ben Burgess President Vice Kev. Harry Philips • 2nd Vice President. Charles F. Moore was re elected Treasurer, and Charles Du Laney, Jr., was reappointed Executive Direc tor by the Board. Mrs. John R. Le Valley and Joe Ferguson were appointed tc fill vacancy on the 1972 Board Mrs. Frank McGuire and B. F. Maree were elected to the [973 class to fill unexpected erms. Directors elected to the Class 974 are as follows: Dr. Glen Matheny, William lunter, George Turner, Ray lurgin, Frank McGibboney, Job Lentz, Dr. Carol Grahl, jarry Turner and Harry Hade er. Brevard College To Participate In Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Prooram This Year Brevard College Is to par ticipate In the Thomas F. Staley Foundation Disting uished Christian Scholar Lec ture Program, according to an announcement made hy President Robert A. Davis. A grant has been made hy the iauudatlan to present out standing Christian leaders to speak «t Brevard College. Speakers for this series will 'be The Rev. Ed Kilbourne from Atlanta, Ga., a "minister at large” of the United Metho dist Church. He is a most ver satile person and a unique in dividual for many reasons. Mr. Kilbourne has played the gui tar for 16 years and speaks the language of music. Through this medium he brings Chris tian understanding and enjoy ment to every generation. The Rev. Kilbourne will speak at Brevard College on February 23rd. The second speaker is Bis hop Ole E. Borgen, who will speak at Brevard College on April 5th. He is the new episcopal leader of some 43, MW United Methodists in Northern Europe. This area that he heads includes Den mark, Norway, Sweden, Fin land and Estonia. Bishop Borgen graduated from Bre vard College in 1958, sum ma cum laude. He also holds degrees from three United Methodist - related schools in the United States. He has lectured and taught special courses throughout Scanda navia and has written numer ohs articles. He is also au thor of two recent books in German. Dr. Arthur Mitchell Faulk ner, pastor of Meyers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, will speak at Bre vard College on May 7-th. Dr. Faulkner also is a graduate oi Brevard College, class of 1935 He received his A.B. degree from Emory University; als< holds the D.D. degree fron Pfeiffer College, and is on thi board of trustees at Pfeiffei College. The Staley Distinguished Scholar Series is a project of the Thomas F. Staley Foundation of New York. This lectureship was estab lished in the fall of 1969 b] Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Sta ley of Rye, N. Y., in memory 01 their parents, Dr. and Mrs Thomas F. Staley, and Judg< ard ?Trs. H. H. Haynes of Bris tol, Tennessee. The Thomas F Staley Foundation is firmly persuad ed that the message of the Christian Gospel when pro claimed in its historic full ness is always contemporary, relevant and meaningful to any generation.
