FROM THE EDITOR'S CORNER ' ’ T * f: <n£" « V There wee a basload of dis appointed boys and girls from Bradenton, Florida, in Bre vard hist weekend. They were guests of the Tooth of the First Methodist church and they hid come to the mountains for a weekend ef siding. Bnt the weatherman didn’t cooperate with them. i However, they enjoyed visiting in the Pisgah Na tional Forest and the fellow ship of our Methodist youth. Admiral Ligon Ard, chairman of the Board of Elections, tells us that the youth in Transyl vania seem to be politically minded. While registration of the group from 18 to 21 is slow in towns and cities across the na tion, it’s going well here. It is estimated that we have approximately 300 in this age bracket, and Admiral says that more than half of this number has registered. His office is open on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays here in the court house. From a March, 1957, Coro net, we reprint: “If Lincoln were alive, to day, he wouldn’t have such" a hard time getting an educa tion. His height would entitle him to a basketball scholar ship.” And this still timely topic offered by Cedric Adams: A woman, after looking over a selection of thermom eters, told the clerk: “I’ll take this Fahrenheit one. I know that’s a good brand.” Buiuvm -enjoyed this item ' by Iran Boyett most of all: An insurance salesman was having trouble getting through to his prospective customer. "What is the maximum value of your husband’s pres ent policy?” he asked the housewife. “What’s which?” "If you should lose your husband, for example,” he explained patiently, “what would you get?” Thoughtfully, she looked around the rumpled, cigar scented room. Then her face lit up and she brightly an swered, “A parakeet!” Joke of the week . . . “That poor man behind bars was ruined by untold wealth,’’ said the warden. “How’s that?” asked the visi tor. “He didn’t mention it when he filed his income tax.” And we also like . .. The museum guide was just finishing the tour: “And here, ladies and gentlemen, we have this imposing Greek statue. Note the noble way in which the neck supports the head, the splendid curve of the shoulders, and especially, the natural way in which the opened hand is outstretched, as if to emphasize, ‘Don’t for get to tip the guide’.” Borrowed . There’s nothing wrong with today’s younger set that be coming taxpayers won’t cure. —☆— No one can prove that man descended from a monkey ev en though sometimes he acts like one. —☆— Kill a little time now and TRANSYLVANIA BOOKMOBILE SCHEDULE Thursday, February 3-Little River Tuesday, February 8_Pisgah Forest Wednesday, February 9_Calvert Rosman Hwy.
