There wee a basload of dis
appointed boys and girls from
Bradenton, Florida, in Bre
vard hist weekend.
They were guests of the
Tooth of the First Methodist
church and they hid come to
the mountains for a weekend
ef siding.
Bnt the weatherman didn’t
cooperate with them.

However, they enjoyed
visiting in the Pisgah Na
tional Forest and the fellow
ship of our Methodist youth.
Admiral Ligon Ard, chairman
of the Board of Elections, tells
us that the youth in Transyl
vania seem to be politically
minded.
While registration of the
group from 18 to 21 is slow in
towns and cities across the na
tion, it’s going well here.
It is estimated that we have
approximately 300 in this age
bracket, and Admiral says that
more than half of this number
has registered.
His office is open on Monday,
Wednesday and Fridays here in
the court house.

An elementary school student
inquired “How can some of our
teachers get better prepared to
instruct us in some subjects? I
sometimes ask questions from
the text book that they seem to
have trouble answering.”
An adult wanted to know
what could be done to de
crease the current classroom
load in the schools. Another
wanted to know if Transyl
vania’s teachers in' general
seemed to be as well quali
fied as those in other school
systems, while yet another
wanted to know how Transyl
vania school buildings and fa
cilities compared with those
water flow - one missing en
tirely.

Local school officials hope
that the evaluation of the Tran
sylvania schools by these ex
perts will help to guide them
in building a better school sys
sm nere in tne years to come.
“In finding out our strong
points and our short comings
by this evaluation, we will be
better prepared to plan to
give Transylvania’s children
the very best public school
education possible,” stated
Transylvania county school
superintendent, Harry C.

Cookie Sale
Continues
All 23 Girl Scout troops in
Transylvania County were rep
resented last Saturday morning
at the annual cookie rally.
Each Scout was given her order
form at that time, and all Girl
Scouts will take cookie orders
until February 12th.
The five varieties of cookies:
assorted sandwich, mint, butter
flavored shorties, peanut butter
and pecanettes, will arrive
around March 1st. Cookies are
60c per box.
For each box of cookies sold,
the troop receives 5c per box
profit to finance the troop ac
tivities. The balance of the
profit is used by the Pisgah
Council to maintain camp prop
erties and to purchase camping
