Sims in response to a student thanking him for his support of Brevard College. This reply was typical of Mr. Sims, who for many years has quietly contributed to Brevard College with the stud ents’ welfare in mind. Allen Sims was bom at Franklin, N. C. on November 5, 1809, the son of the late Methodist minister, Allen Hampton Sims and his wife, Mary Robinson Sims. He at tended Shelby High School, and later graduated from Lawn dale High School in. 1916. He attended King’s Business Col lege in Charlotte, from 1916 1917, and after graduating from that Institution, worked as bookeeper - secretary for Cra mer Mills of Cramerton. . . v. Then from 1919-1990, he at tended UNC where he was an outstanding athlete on the foot ball and baseball fields. On June 14. 1922 Mr. Sima married Miss Anne Rankin, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert R. Rankin, Sr. In February, 1920, he receiv ed an offer from Mr. A. O. Myers to work for the Citizens National Bank in Gastonia. He served this institution in ca pacities ranging from book keeper to Chairman of the Board during his 51 year ca reer which was culminated by his retirement bn December 31, 1971. SIMS is seen on one of his many visits to Brevard. President and Chairman of the Board. Under his leadership this company has grown to one of national reputation. His leadership ability has been shared with many other businesses, as well as civic and educational institutions. To name a few: Textiles, Inc., Fed eral Reserve Bank, Gastonia Chamber of Commerce, Gas tonia Airport Commission, Gas ton Country Club, the Gaston Memorial Hospital, K? C. Clti zens Association, Salvation Army, the Gaston Rotary Club, and' still others. In addition to these varying interests, Allen H. Sims has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Brevard College for 11 years and a Trustee for 28 years. Farver, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Far ver 0i route 2, Lake Toxaway, completed basic jet training by tasking six aircraft carrier land ings. He will now begin the final phases of Naval Flight training leading to his designation as a Naval Aviator. He is a 1967 graduate of Miami Springs High School in Miami Springs, Fla., and a 1971 graduate of Berry College in Mt. Berry, Ga. He joined the Navy in. May, 1971. City Auto And Truck Stickers Now Available The City automobile and truck stickers are now on sale at the Municipal building. According to Mrs. Opal C. Armentrout, the code of the City of Brevard requires that all resident automobiles and trucks display a City license sticker on the lower right hand corner of windshield on and after February 16th. Residents are urged to pur chase their stickers at City Hall before the deadline and avoid penalty. The cost is $1.00. Frady Commissioners Announce Time For Listing Taxes In County Extended To March 1 The time for listing taxes in Transylvania has been extend ed, according to an announce ment today by the Board of County Commissioners. Transylvanians can now list through the month of Febru ary, with the deadline being March 1st. Listing is being done here in the Tax Supervisor’s office from 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. each day. Citizens can also list on Sat urday morning of this week, but there will be no Saturday listing during the month of February. The Tax Supervisor’s office has a standard inventory form available for stocks and mer chandise which is required at listing time. A penalty will be imposed on all persons who fail to list their taxes for 1972. Lawrence Hipp, the Tax Supervisor, urges all citizens to come „ in. .right away and not put off listing their taxes. Siniard of 104 Out land Ave., Brevard, aboard the amphibious attack cargo ship USS El Paso is battling the winter, the sea and the “ene my” in the exercise “Snowy Beach” being conducted off the Main coast. The operation, involving some 30 ships and 15,000 men, in cludes exercise in anti-subma rine warfare, mine warfare and close air support as well as a moderate scale amphibious as sault on Maine’s Reid State Park. “Snowy Beach” is the first Atlantic Fleet exercise held for several years to test the Fleet’s capability to operate under adverse winter weather conditions.
