Architect’s Drawing Of New Xylon Systems Plant On Rosman Highway Much Action Taken Chamber Of Commerce Directors Hear Reports At Meet Tuesday Directors or the Brevard Chamber of Commerce held their February meeting Tues day night in the library with President Ray N. Simmons presiding. Dr. W. A. Davis vyas elected secretary to replace 'Larry Tur ner, who resigned because of business commitments. The new directors were wel comed by President Simmons. Many committee reports were •^heard. Charles Dimes, chairman, reported that Raymond F. Bennett is the new co-chair man of the Membership com mittee with him, and he en couraged every director to pay his dues by March. He also revealed that there are some 136 prospective mem bers for the Chamber of Com merce. The Finance committee, com posed of Charles L. Russell, Ben Burgess and Ben Patterson are currently working on the budget. It was authorized that the Advertising committee spend $3,500 for new folders during the year. There was a discussion of the luncheon meeting on Wednes day of the Industrial commit tee when it would be announc ed that a new plant would be built on the Rosman highway. An enthusiastic report was given by “Guis” Siniard, chairman of the Recreational committee. The annual banquet of the Brevard Chamber of Commerce will be held on February 25th, at the Brevard high school. In Since 1963 Israel Seeking Re-Election To Office Of Register Of Deeds Fred H. Israel, the incum bent Register of Deeds, is seeking re-election in the May Democratic Primary. Mr. Israel has been serving as Register of Deeds apd Vet erans Service office for Tran sylvania county since June, 1963. A native Transylvanian, he was born at Rosman. During World War II, he served for four and one half years in the United States Air Force in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Mr. Israel is a member of the First Baptist church of Brevard; the Monroe Wilson Post of the American Legion; the Lewis Earl Jackson Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the Brevard Chamber of Com merce During his tenure of office, he has attended several special schools for Registrars of Deeds at the Institute of Govern ment at Chapel Hill. Feb. 8 .. 43 13 0.00 Tax Course To Be Offered At Brevard High The Adult Education pro gram of Transylvania County Schools and Blue Ridge Tech nical Institute will offer a course in the preparation of federal and state income tax returns starting Tuesday, Feb ruary 15th. Classes will start at 7:00 p. m. and will be di vided into two, three - hour sessions. The second session will be held Thursday, February 17th. There will be no fee charge for the course, and there will —Turn to Page Two Xylon Systems To Build New Plant On The Rosman Highway Are Makers Of Modern A-Frame Vacation Homes Xylon Systems, of Pompano Beach. Florida, and builders of modern A-Frame vacation homes, will immediately be gin construction of a new plant in Transylvania on the Rosman highway about two miles from Brevard. The announcement was made Wednesday at a lunch eon meeting of the Industrial Committee of the Brevard Chamber of Commerce at Berry’s. The developers of the Xylon systems who attended the meeting are: Richard Dodge AIA, Pompano Beach; Carol Sanford, pioneer in the wood truss business in Pompano; and Homer Portman, of Hills boro Beach, Florida. John I. Anderson, chair man of tjhe Industrial com mittee, presided over the meeting, and the visitors, who said they already feel like they are residents of Transylvania, were present ed by Jerry Hart Jerome. The site for the new plant was purchased from Ed Mor gan, and Mr. Dodge said they expect to have the new fa cility in operation hv May. Initially, they will employ ap proximately 10 persons. Also attending the meeting Were the AMermen of the City of Brevard, the Transyl vania County Board of Com missioners. Charles Campbell, Mavor of Brevard, and Mrs. Edith Osborne, Mayor of Bos nian. Xvlon Systems is currently putting the finishing touches on one of the Vacation homes at Connestee. This home is priced to sell at $17,000. Xylon Systems will make Sanford Span Joists in their plant here. They anticipate a large demand for vacation homes in this area, and thev believe the new plant will answer a great need. The systems method of construction utilizes dimen sional structural grade lum ber and high strength steel connectors to form an inte gral structural unit. The ex terior walls are a plywood skin covered by rustic wood shake shingles. The A-frame home which wiU have 1,410 square feet of living area, consists of eight steel columns from which the entire building is suspended. The span joists and accom panying girder joist work to gether to form a solid struc ture at a cost less than con ventional construction. Ard resign ed this week as Chairman of the Board of Elections and an nounced his candidacy for the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners in the May 6 Democratic Primary. He submitted his resignation to Robert H. Hunter, Chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee on Tuesday; Wednesday morning he gave The Times a prepared state ment in which he announces for the Board of County Commis sioners. It does awsrv completely with the brlk cf inflexibility that has hampered the effective use of police radar in the past. The new unit is tiny, port able — weighs less than 15 pounds. It can be used inside the police car or outside*, any where a 12-volt automobile battery can be provided. The dzvice consists of a small beam projector resemb ling a spotlight, and a com puter unit, which reads di rectly in mil”s per-hour of the vehicle the beam is focused on. The computer incorporates a thread hold setting so that a posted speed limit can be set. Any vehicle exceeding this l'init, goirg or coming, will can e a light to come on and a buzzer to round. Grahl, Jr., an nounces that he will be a can didate in the May 6 Democratic Primary for the Board of Edu cation. Dr. Grahl, wlio has practiced dentristry here in Brevard for the past 16 years, has been most active in civic and church af fairs. He is an Elder in the Bre vard - Davidson River Presby terian church and sings in the choir. During recent years, he has addressed many, many church and civic groups on drug abuse.
