Community Scholarships /To Music Center Awarded Linda Kirk, daughter of Dr. Mrs. David C. Kirk, River -ittdge, Brevard was awarded a "Initial scholarship to study voice in the Advanced Division T)f Brevard Music Center. Linda "’was graduated from Brevard ’•'Senior High School this year and will be a freshman at Fur man University this fall. She plans to major in music. Senior High Band and played clarinet in All-State Band for three years. She was awarded first place in the Western North Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs District Fine Arts Competition. Linda has done church solo work and is very interested in operatic music. Susan Torella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Torella of Penrose, was awarded a full scholarship in voice to the Transylvania Music Camp. Susan has studied voice at Bre vard College for the past two years, first with Miss Georgie Henson and presently with Mr. Miller. She is active in the Brevard Senior High Chorus and does solo work with the chorus as well as church solo work. Susan also plays guitar and sings folk songs. She received a scholarship from the Brevard Music Lovers’ Club for voice study during the 1973-74 school year also. She will be a junior at Brevard Senior High this year and plans to become a voice teacher. State Privilege Licenses Are Due Gordon T. Carpenter, Rev enue Collector, urges taxpayers who are liable for State privi lege licenses to procure them before July 1, 1973. According to Mr. Carpenter, timely applications for licenses, together with the correct remit tance, should be mailed to the North Carolina Department of Revenue, P. O. Box 25000, Ra leigh, North Carolina 27640 or submitted to the local State Revenue office. He advises that the penalty for failure to comply will be 5% for each delinquent month, or fraction thereof. Glazener, son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Glaze ner, Kt. 1, Brevard, has been recognized for his participa tion in Operation Linebacker II, the successful air cam paign last December against key military targets in North Vietnam. Members of USAF’s Eighth and Seventh Air Forces and U. S. Navy Task Force 77 who carried out the operation have received and coveted Collier Trophy for 1972. Dur ing the campaign, Captain Glazener served as a B-52 Stratofortress navigator with the Eighth which is head quartered at Andersen AFB, Guam. He is assigned per manently to the 96th Bomb Wing at Dyess AFB, Tex. The 27 aerospace leaders and authorities serving on the Collier Selection Commit tee of the National Aero nautic Association unani mously selected Operation Linebacker as the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics of the year. The committee cited the cam paign as a crucial and deci sive factor leading to the re turn of U. S. prisoners of war and the attainment of other principal U. S. objectives. Admiral Thomas J. Moorer, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently accepted the award in Washington in behalf of all military units involved. Captain Glazener attended Brevard Senior High School and received his B.S. degree in 1969 from Western Caro lina University, Cullowhee.
