monthly meeting on June
26th in the home of Mrs. Ed
Sentelle.
Miss Jean Childers present

helpful program on “The
Art of Freezing and Can
ning”. She mentioned three
foods which should not be
tasted before cooking at least
IS minutes before eating.
These were home canned
beans, corn and beets because
of Botulism which is a dead
ly poison.
Mrs. Nell Tinsley gave a
committee report on “Fall
Gardens”.
An announcement was made
from Jack K. Bradley con
cerning “The Festival of
Arts Fair” to be held in the
Senior High School gymna
sium on July 27th - 28th.
The meeting was adjourn
ed by reading the club col

were served by the hostess.

JULY WEDDING — Mr. and Mrs. Luther J.
Fisher of Lake Toxaway announce the approach
ing marriage of their daughter, Janice Annette, to
Stephen Russell Whitmire, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles L. Whitmire of East Fork. Both are 1972
graduates of Rosman High School. The bride
elect is a former employee of American Thread
Company. The groom-elect is presently employed
by Du Pont. The wedding is planned for Sunday,
July 15th, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Missionary Bap
tist Church at Lake Toxaway. All friends and
relatives are cordially invited to attend.

ried at 2:00 p. m. Saturday.
July 7th, in the First Bap
tist Church of Brevard by the
Reverend Russell Willis. Mrs.
Ronnie Waldrop provided the
wedding music.
The bride is the daughter
of Mrs. Helen H. Wright of
Brevard, and Joseph Few
Wright, Sr., also of Brevard.
The groom is the son of Mrs.
Dohonov P. Galloway of Bal
sam Grove, and the late Ralph
Galloway.

The High Hills Garden Club
met June 26th at the home
of Mrs. John R. Folger. Fif
teen members were present
and enjoyed the coffee hour
proceeding the meeting.

To Be Toured
On Thursday July 19th,
the area residents will be
able to enjoy one of the
season’s highlights' — The
Home and Garden Tour, spon
sored by the Highlanders
Cashiers Garden Club.
Four Cashiers area home
owners have generously per
mitted their homes to be
opened for this tour, accord
ing to Mrs. Jack J. Asbury,
Jr., Chairman of the event.
The High Hampton homes
of Mr. and Mrs. Carleton
Clark and Judge and Mrs.
Stewart LaMotte, Jr., and
the Sapphire Valley homes
of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Beck
er and Mr. and Mrs. H. F.
Wulf comprise the four homes
on this year’s tour.
Meeting places for those
wishing to make the tour are
Highlands High School at
9:30 a. m. or the Cashiers
Community Center at 10:30
a. m. where, as in past touts,
tickets, transportation and
guides will be available.
The donation of $6.00 in
cludes luncheon at Sapphire
Valley Inn. Profits from this
event are used in the vari
ous civic beautification pro
jects undertaken by the
highlands - Cashiers Garden
Club.
Summer Program
For Girls Is
Being Offered
A summer program of sports
activities is being offered by
the Recreation Department for
girls of junior high age or old
er at Brevard Senior High.
Highlight of this summer fit
ness program is a basketball
league. Practice is now taking
place on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday from 6:30 • 8:00 at
the gym and team play fill be
gin next Monday.
The program has a free ac
tivity period from 2:00 - 4:00
outside and from 4:00 - 5:30 in
side the gym. Activities avail
able under the supervision of
Cindy Bellefeuil include volley
ball, softball, ping pong, darts,
badmitton and the track is
avaiable for running and jog
ging.

STORY TIME at the library

Mrs. Edith Jenkins, left, former Di
rector of the Transylvania County
Social Services Department, was re- >
cently honored at a reception given
by Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McConnell
at their home on Franklin street.
Over 100 persons attended. Mrs.
Jenkins was presented with a beauti
ful silver tray on behalf of many
friends in the community by Mrs.
McConnell, right. She was lauded
for her outstanding work in direct
ing the Social Services Department
and her many other contributions
for community betterment. Assisting
the McConnells in serving at the re
ception were members of the Social
Sendees Department and Board
members and their wives.
