PRINCIPALS IN TECHNICAL INSTITUTE FEASIBILITY STUDY — Left to r ight are Joe Morrow, Harry Corbin,, Marcus Allred, Charles Russell, Jimmy Gaither, Tom Bingham and C. M. King. (Times Staff Photo) In Transylvania Study In Progress To Determine Need For Technical Institute A study is now in progress to determine the need for a technical institute in Tran sylvania County. The Board of Education has appointed a Steering Committee that is conducting surveys and com piling information relating to the County’s need for a lo cal technical institute. Information will also be gathered to show the amount of interest and potential fi nancial support that exists. t Tom L. Bingham, Chairman of the Steering Committee, an nounces that various Sub-Com mittees are now at work. A Student • Adult Survey Committee, with Joe Morrow serving as Chairman, is secur ing data relating to interest in technical and vocational courses. Mrs. Lucy Bryson, Mrs. Jacqueline Whitaker, and Jack Hall are members of this Committee. Interested persons are requested to com plete the Adult Survey Form with this story. Charles Russell, Chairman of the Business and Industry Com mittee, is assisted by J. D. Truan, Don Blankinship, Hugh Catlett, Tom Hunter, Chester Kilpatrick, and Mrs. Thelma Glazener. Members of this Com mittee are determining present and projected employment de mands in Transylvania County. Mrs. Peggy Hina, Mrs. Fran ces Waser, Bill Norris, and Dr. Robert Davis are serving on the Publicity and Finance Committee, Chaired by Gil Coan. Steve Cochran and George Turner are working with Chair man Jimmy Gaither on the Temporary Site Committee. Fa cilities, if only temporary, must be available if the study re sults in justification of an in stitute in the County. C. M. King is serving as consultant to tbe Steering Committee in the data gath ering process. Mr. King per formed a similar function in Henderson County prior to the establishment of Blue Ridge Technical Institute in Hendersonville. “The initiation of this study does not indicate that the Tran sylvania County Board of Edu RESOLUTION tween the Greenville-Brevard Highway and the Elm Bend Road within the corporate limits of said Town of Brevard; and WHEREAS, the said street has never been accepted by the Town of Brevard and has never been maintained by the same and serves only the residents in said Sapphire Manor Apart ments; and WHEREAS, Sapphire Manor Condominiums, Inc., has pur chased the said Sapphire Manor Aaprtments property and de sires to acquire said street and assume its maintenance and up keep; and WHEREAS, the said Sapphire Manor Condominiums. Inc., is now the owner of all of the property fronting on both sides of said street and no individual owning property in the vicinity of the street or in the subdivi sion in which it is located would be deprived of reasonable means of ingress and egress to his property by the closing of Mid street: and WHEREAS, the closing of said street would be to the best WHEREAS, on the 6th day of October, 1960, Julian H. Zim merman, of Washington, D. C., as Federal Housing Commis sioner, conveyed to the Town of Brevard by deed recorded in Book 130, page 469, that cer tain street known as Trow bridge Drive and the two park ing bays adjacent thereto in thr property known as Sapphire Manor Apartments lying be Brevard, North Carolina, does hereby declare its intention to close that certain street known as Trowbridge Drive and the two parking bays adjacent thereto in the property known as Sapphire Manor Apartments lying between the Greenville Brevard Highway and the Elm Bead Road within the corporate limits of the Town of Brevard, and does hereby call a special hearing on the question of dos ing the same to be held on the 5th day of Nov., 1973, in the Town Hall, Brevard, North Carolina, at 7:30 o’clock p.m., pursuant to the provisions of Section 160A-299 of the General Statutes of North Carolina. Be it further Resolved, that this resolution be published once a week for four successive weeks prior to the foregoing hearing in the Transylvania Times, and a copy thereof be sent by registered or certified mail to all owners of property adjoining the street as shown on the County Tax Records, apd a cppy of the Notice of Closing and Public Hearing be promi nently posted in at least two places along the said street, as required by Section 16OA-290 of cation is endorsing the estab lishment of a technical insti tute,” says a Board spokesman. "Consideration of an endorse ment will only be given at the conclusion of the feasibility study. Improvements At Silversteen Center Discussed At Meeting By - Eva Kinney (Omitted Last Week) SILVERSTEEN — The meet ing Friday night at the Silve steen Community Center, sever al things were discussed what will be done to improve the building, etc. After the meeting was ad journed, they started the cake sale for Mrs. Ethel Anders. She is getting some better and we are hoping and paying for more impovement. The cake sale came out really good. The amount that was tak en up at the Community Center Friday night was $316.45 and there are more being given to her and it is appreciated and they want to thank everyone for being so kind. On October 13th, Saturday night, at the Silversteen Com munity Center there will be a covered dish supper at 7:30 p. m. Bring a vegetable or a des sert. The supper is free and the only thing asked is to give a donation to help the Rosman Rescue Squad if you like, be cause they are ready to come and help out, when anyone needs them. So you come and bring a dish and have a good time. Avery Hogsed celebrated a birthday Sunday. They gave him a birthday supper and there were about 20 guests there. Charles Ray Kimsey celebrated a birthday Sunday also. We wish them both a Happy Birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hogsed and son spent the weekend in Franklin with Mr. and Mrs. Furman Peak and family. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kim sey and kids visited Mrs. Cath erine Kimsey Sunday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Joe An ders and kids are moving back here from Michigan due to his mother being sick.
