Crowd Pleasing All-American Red Heads To Play Here Next Week Moore’s All - American Red Heads, an outstanding girls basketball team that plays by men’s basketball rules, will be coming back to Brevard for an other appearance next Thurs day evening, January 17. The "Red Heads”, who have become real crowd pleasers on their annual visit* here to dre vard in recent years, wui play a group of local men’s “all stars” comprised of members of the BHS coaching staff and faculty at the Brevard High gym next Thursday in a game sched uled to “tip-off’ at 8:00 p.m. The game is sponsored by the BHS Varsity Club, and all pro ceeds from it will go to help purchase monogram jackets for the Varsity Club members. Advance tickets are currently on sale for $1.75 for adults and $1.25 for students. Tickets will also be available at the door for $2.00 for adults and $1.50 for students. Children under six years of age will be admitted free. Everyone is encouraged to come out and see this laugh filled contest which promises to mix a lot of fine basketball skill with a lot of comedy guaran teed to make every member of the family spend an entertain ing evening. THE ALL*AMERICAN RED HEADS, pictured above, will be making a return appearance here at the BHS gym next Thursday night, January 17, against a local group of men’s all-stars. The crowd pleasing Red Heads will “tip-off’ against the all stars at 8:00 p.m., in a game sponsored by the BHS Varsity Club. The March of Dimes helped organize the new Committee on Perinatal Health, whose mem bers include leaders in obste trics, pediatrics and family practice. The goal is to upgrade the quality of maternal, fetal, and newborn health services. Birth Defects: Atlas and Com pendium, put out by The Na tional Foundation - March of Dimes, is written by 370 medi cal specialists from 22 coun tries. Each author is an expert in his field. Brevard's Girls Win Three, But Boys Lose To Bearcats, Mounties, Rockets Brevard High’s basketball teams returned to the cage wars last week after the Christmas holidays with mixed success. The Blue Devilettes have won all three of their games played since last week, but the Blue Devils are still finding the go ing rough and have lost their last three. The girls whipped Hender sonville 4541 last Wednesday, clobbered Tnsedta 44-25 on Fri day, and then avenged their lone loss of the season with a narrow 58-56 win over Reynolds Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the boys lost to Hendersonville 79-53, to Tus cola 72-59 on Friday, and to Reynolds 67-48 Tuesday night. Against Hendersonville, Joyce Patterson, Cindy Brookshire and Lynn Avery shared scoring honors with 12, 12 and 10 points respectively. Against Tuscola, Joyce Pat terson almost matched Tuscola’s total point output as she poured in 24 points, only on« point shy of Tuscola’s total of 25. Tuesday night, it was Rhonda Harris who led the pack with 16 points, followed closely by Cindy Brookshire’s 13 and Joyce Patterson’s 14. For the boys, Bobby Arnett and James Duckett shared scor ing honors against Henderson ville with 14 and 13 points re spectively, while Duckett and Dale Griffin led the Blue Devils against Tuscola with 20 and 13 points respectively. Brevard’s Jayvees made it two out of three for Brevard against Tuscola as they whipped the January 10, 1974 PAGE TWO young Mountaineers 66-55. Against Reynolds, Tommy Fortune led Brevard’s scoring with 12 points, as he was the only Blue Devil in double fig ures against the Rockets. The Jayvees lost to Reynolds, 75-46. > Brevard’s next games will be at home this Friday night when Enka comes to town for a big triple-header. Mother’s March Of Dimes Slated In County, 20th The 1974 Mother’s March of Dimes will be conducted in Bre vard on Sunday afternoon, January 20th. The door-to-door March against birth defects is sponsored locally by the Bre vard Junior Woman’s Club. The 1974 Campaign is the eighth consecutive one organized by the club. Mrs. Ray Jackson, Mrs. Bill Jamerson and Mrs. Harry Lowe are chairmen for this year’s campaign. They are distributing collection envelopes and litera ture to volunteer marchers throughout Transylvania Coun ty. AUSTIN HOUSED The Annual Miss Bengal beauty pageant will be held Saturday^night at 8:00 o’clock in the Rosman High School auditorium under the sponsor ship of Mrs. Jane Williams and the annual staff. Fourteen girls are competing for the title, and the winner will be crowned “Miss Bengal”. Her picture will be featured on a full page in the Bengal, high school annual The girls will wear school dresses and evening dresses. Moriah Calvert Baptist churches at the Calvert church Jan. 13 -16. The Rev. Otis Wheelhouse will teach the book of Oolos sians to the adults. McCall • Rogers Miss Rita Faye McCall, daugh ter of Mrs. Nola Mae McCall of Balsam Grove, and the late Benjamin McCall, became the bride of Michael Clifton Rog ers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rogers of Brevard, in a cere mony Dec. 22nd in Pickens, S. C. The bride was attired in a white street length dress with which she wore blue accessories. She is a sophomore at Rosman High School and will continue her education. The bridegroom is a graduate of Brevard High School and is employed at Olin Chemical Cor The couple is residing in the Hooper Trailer Park near Ros man. They were honored with a supper at the bride’s home fol lowing the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hall of the East Fork section accompanied them to Pickens for the ceremony. Honored Mrs. Norris Powell honored her daughter Pam with a party Saturday at the Eastatoe Com munity center. It was given in honor of her tenth birthday anniversary. Games were played under the direction of Miss Teresa Chap man. The honoree received lovely gifts.
