plaque as second runner-up in a sales
incentive contest among 32 Carolina
Tire Company stores. The award was
presented by Clyde W. Granberry,
vice president-retail sales, Brad
Eagan, Inc. Smith was presented the
award at a banquet held at the Grove
Park Inn in Asheville Aug. 3.

Richard Smith of Carolina Tire
Company of Brevard, one of the
youngest store managers in the
group, received a plaque as
second runner-up in the recent
sales incentive contest among 32
Carolina Tire store managers.
Thirty-two Carolina Tire
Company store managers from
North Carolina, South Carolina,
and Virginia met at Asheville’s
Grove Park Inn Aug. 3-4, in a two
day meeting, the purpose of
which was to present prizes in a
sales incentive contest among the
stores and introduce the store
managers to the latest lines of
Zenith television and Goodyear
tires.
Clyde W. Granberry, vice
president-retail division, Brad
Ragan, Inc. and Wally Hylton,
zone manager for Carolina Tire
Company stores, presided.
In sales competition between
“flatlanders” and “moun
taineers,” the mountaineers
were declared winners, and team
captain Ken Mount, manager of
Carolina Tire Company of
Marion, received a plaque for his
ettorts.
In individual competition, Ken
Russell, manager of Carolina
Tire Company of Albemarle,
N.C., was presented a trophy as
top store manager in the sales
contest.
Jerry Horne of Carolina Tire
Company of Durham won a
trophy for having the highest
percentage of tire sales.
Third runner-up was Melvin
Love, manager of Carolina Tire
Company of Concord.
Approximately 76 persons
attended the meeting, including
wives of the store managers and
sales representatives.
Carolina Tire Company is a
division of Brad Ragan, Inc. and
Subsidiaries with headquarters
in Spruce Pine.

Pisgah Forest Elementary

host this meeting.
Ail local candidates will be in
attendance and all Democrats in
the county are urged to attend by
County Chairman, Mrs. Molly
Wilmot.
CHILD STUDY
A recent study on child rearing
shows that mothers who started
their families after age 22 were
somewhat warmer and more
effectionate toward all of their
children than younger mothers.

Work Progressing On Cathey’s
Creek Development Club Center

The Cathey’s Creek develop
ment club will hold it’s regular
meeting at the center on Monday
night August 26th at 7:30 p.m.
Several items will be discussed
and a door prize will be awarded.
Everyone has a cordial invitation
to come. The work has been
progressing nicely inside the
center building.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Barton of
Miami, Florida spent several
days here visiting his brothers
Fred and Vernon and his sister
Reba Stanley and family. Their
brother Charles Barton from
Newport News, Va., also came
home to meet with them as well
as Mrs. Dicie Clark and daughter
Robinette and children of
Statesville. They all enjoyed a
lovely time.
We wish to welcome Dr. and
Mrs. Kurt A. Luedtke who are
new residents of Ross Road.
Mrs. Evelyn Connor of Sun
nyvale, California, is visiting
relatives in parts of North
Carolina. She spent Monday
visiting her father Mr. Carl
Couch.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom McKinney
have moved back to their farm
house from the store. They have
a new store operator we are told,
Mr. and Mrs. Jake McCall.

original GI Bill 7.8 million World
War II veterans, out of a total of
16.5 million, used their GI
education and traiining benefits
at a program cost of (14.5 billion.
Vietnam veterans are exceeding
that rate.
