STEPHEN LEWIS OWEN Diane Hines Marries Stephen Lewis Owen Miss Diane Leath Hines and Stephen Lewis Owen were married at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan, 11, in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Minnie G. Owen of Route 1, Pisgah Forest, and the late Claude Owen. Dr. Joseph Mullin heard their vows. John Truitt was soloist. A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Hines, in Green sboro. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a satin gown with long, full sleeves and high neckline. She wore a veil of Brussels lace and carried a bouquet of white roses. Miss Gail Ledbetter of Greensboro was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Sandy Blackwood and Miss Maureen McGough, both of Greensboro, Miss Starr Robinson of Luray, Va., and Miss Debbie Owen of Pisgah Forest, sister of the bridegroom. Miss Diane Owen of Pisgah Forest, niece of the bridegroom, was flower girl. Donald Owen of Greenville, S. C., was his brother’s best man. Ushers were Edwin Owen and Larry Owen of Pisgah Forest, the bridegroom’s brothers, Bill '.vis of Greenville, S. C.; and Timothy Leith, of Greenville, N. C. The bride is a junior at N. C. State University, The bridegroom, a graduate of N. C. State University, is em ployed by Burlington In dustries. The newlyweds will live in Granite Falls. Parent Supervision Urged At Bus Stops Don Cox, of the traffic safety education division of the N.C. Department of Transportation said in Brevard late last week that he’d like to encourage parents to oversee their youngsters at school bus stops. The state is becoming alarmed, said Mr. Cox, that seven pupils have died in school bus accidents, five of them at bus stops, since schools opened the last of August. "And last year there were only five such fatal accidents during the entire school year.” Among the fatalities this year: In Randolph County a 10 year-old girl was killed when struck by a car while walking to a school bus. In Catawba County, a five year-old girl died when she walked into the path of a non public school bus while playing along the side of the road after getting off a public school bus. In Brunswick County a six year-old girl was killed by a school bus after departing from it. In Guilford a girl, age 5, was killed by a car while going to her school bus stop. In Beaufort County a six year-old boy died after he was struck by a school bus he had just departed from. One five-year-old girl died on injuries received when the school bus she was riding turned over. In the other fatality in volving a school bus, a 42 year-old woman was killed whn her car collided with it. after you see your doctor. bring your prescription to Lynn Burrell Will Marry Larry William Nelson Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burrell of Maple Street Ex tension have anhounced the engagement of their daughter, April Lynnette, and Larry William Nelson of Taylors, S. C., son of Mrs. William Nelson of Montivew Circle and the late Mr. Nelson. Miss Burrell is a graduate of Brevard High School and Brevard College. She will enter the nursing program at Greenville Technical College in the fall. Mr. Nelson, a graduate of Brevard College and N. C. State University, is employed by J. E. Sirrine Co., consultant engineers, in Greenville, S. C. Wedding plans are in complete. LYNN BURRELL MR. AND MRS. ALEX F. ANGEL Mr. And Mrs. Alex Angel Observe Golden Anniversar Mr. and Mrs. Alex F. Angel will observe their 50th wed ding anniversary, Sunday, Jan. 19. Friends and relatives are invited to call at their home on the Lake Sega Road between 1 and 5 p.m. Hostesses for the occasion will be Mrs. Bill Angel, their daughter-in-law, and Mrs. Ronald Reid of Penrose, their granddaughter. The Angels have three children, Mrs. Clayton Am mons of Osborne Road, Mrs, Roy Barton of Miami, Fla., and Bill Angel of Lake Seag Road; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Auxiliary Will Sponsor Musical Program Plans to sponsor a concert by the Calico Chorus were made by the Board of Directors of the Transylvania Community Hospital Auxiliary at its meeting Jan. 8 in the Sun Room at the hospital. The concert will be held April 25 in the Dunham Music Center at Brevard College. Plans were also discussed for the annual auxiliary luncheon April 9. Mrs. Walter Clayton was named chairman of the nominating committee by Mrs. L.W. Martin, president, and Mrs. Ralph Williams was named a member. The auxiliary will meet next on Feb. 12. Jordan St., while her husband Carl is attending a training school at Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado. The children are Mandy, age 4, and Lee, age six months. They will be here for seven weeks before returning to their home at Loring Air Force Base, Maine. The McCalls’ other two children were also recent visitors. Roy and Barbara McCall and their children, Lisa and Laura, age 11, and Greg, age 13, of Harrodsburg, Ky., were here during the Christmas holidays. Martha and Richard Lemke and their son, David, age 7, of Portland, Ore., were visitors during Christmas before going on to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the beginning of the carnival season. Such projects are found in a new book, “A World of Designs With Styrofoam”, at most hobby and craft stores. To make hat, cut out a 3" disk of Styrofoam. Thin disk to Glue disk to a 2" wide X 2V*n long rod of plastic foam. Paint black. Use 1—Vi* X 6* X 6" piece of foam for earmuffs, nose, hal brim, eyes, mouth and buttons. Earmuffs are small ovals 1" long X wide X Paint bright red. Foi band, cut two slices foam approximately X V4* wide X 1" thick Cut nine small, irregularly shaped blocks of plastic foam approximately V4" X %" X ya". Paint black. Carve a 1%" carrot-shaped nose. Paint orange. To assemble Snowman: Glue 4" ball to center of 6" disk. Glue hat to 3" ball. Glue ear muffs and headband in place. Attach eyes, nose and mouth. Using toothpicks and glue, attach head to body. Glue but tons in place. Use a 3A" X 12" length of red felt for muffler and scraps of green felt for "holly berries and leaves". Wrap muffler around neck and pin in place.
