It was a marvelous party and congratulations, Clifford, on reaching another “milestone” in life. Rural —Continued From Page One were just beginning to realize that no community is com pletely self-sustaining and that an action taken by one community could very well positively or adversely affect neighboring communities. “If communities were to develop orderly growth, a partnership for development must be achieved; a part nership of local, state, and national government as well as the full faith partnership among local governments.” When you think of prescriptions, think of VARNER’S, adv. United —Continued From Page One involving the Board members more meaningfully in a year round participation. The leadership looks forward to a good year in 1975 despite the predictions of an increasingly problematic economic situation. 40-Mile Hike Marks Birthday On January 14, Jason L. Smith, son of Mrs. Jess A. Smith of 72 Carolina Ave, Brevard walked 40 miles to celebrate his 40th birthday. Jason is a native of Brevard and lived here 29 years. He went to Brevard College for two years. He finished college at Central Wesleyan College at Central, South Carolina. Jason now resides in Pickens, S. C., where he has been a teacher and coach for the last ll years. He walked from Princeton, S. C. to Pickens, in 11 hours and 42 minutes, stopping for five minute breaks and juice. He is married to the former Carolyn Burdett of Easley, S. C. They are the parents of two children. Angela, 9, and Reggie, 5. Perform a death defying act. Give Middle School Traffic Snarl Still Unsolved —Continued From Page One pointed out, could enter off N. Broad, discharge the children, and then continue on to McLean, then back to N. Broad, if a stoplight were instated at N. Broad and McLean. 7 The cost of widening and paving the road, District Highway Engineer T. M. Austell estimated, would be $15,000, with the stoplight and turn lane costing another $15,000. But local governments would have to obtain the right of way, he added. School Board Member Dr. Jerry Cabe said he would present the proposal for a traffic light at McLean to a meeting of the whole board Thursday night. Still, information from the developers of the shopping center must be obtained, it was pointed out before a final decision can be made. If the builders can obtain a small right of way from Brevard College to place the entrance opposite Fisher Ed., then that would be the logical place for the stoplight, Mayor Campbell said. However if the development plans call for the entrance opposite McLean Rd., then that might be tfie best place for it. Mr. Campbell, obviously favoring the Fisher Rd. site for the light, repeated: “We don’t want to build a sidewalk which dead ends into a four lane highway with no stoplight.” ROSE PROTECTION Rose bushes planted re cently will benefit from a mound of topsoil pulled six to eight inches around the plants. This keeps stems moist and keeps buds alive. « By Mort Woflrar WHAT'S wuroN©, SA(?S£ ? PONT you GET A / XlSG?
