N. C. Crop Value Hits New High The combined value of field drops, vegetables, fruits and nuts produced in N. C. last year is estimated at a record high $1,761 million, according to the Federal-State Crop Reporting Service. Yfeis include receipts for quantities sold and to be sold and value of crops used on farms. The 1974 figure is about 19 per cent above the $1,477 million value placed on crops the previous year and is at tributed to higher prices. The value of the 789.4 million pound tobacco crop — 769.8 million flue-cured and 19.6 million burley — leads the State’s crop values at $834.6 million. This is 16 per cent above the previous season. Flue-cured averaged a record high $1.06 per pound while burley averaged $1.10 per pound. In 1973 flue-cured averaged 88 cents and burley 92 cents. Corn for grain is valued at $395.0 million compared with $277.8 million for the 1973 crop. Production at 116.2 million bushels was 1.4 million bushels above the 1973 output. The 1974 crop averaged $3.40 per bushel while the 1973 crop brought $2.42 per bushel. Soybean production, estimated at 32 million bushels by Crop Reporting officials, is the third most important Tar Heel corp with a value of $238.0 million. Record high prices more than offset reduced yield and lower harvested acreage. The average price per bushel of $7.45 was $1.87 above 1973’s price. Peanut production in 1974 totaled 398.4 million pounds, down sharply from 1973’s record 466.5 million pound crop. The 1974 crop is valued at $73.7 million versus the 1973 value of $77.4 million. Cotton production dropped to 133,000 bales for a value of $27.6 million. The season’s average price of 43.3 cents per pound is well below 1973’s price of 59.6 cents. Cottonseed, estimated at 48,000 tons in 1974, added about $6.3 million to the value of the crop. -n6TWE Notice is hereby given that there will be a public hearing on February 3,1975, 7:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the Municipal Building to con sider an amendment to the City of Brevard’s Zoning Ordinance, relating to Non Conforming Residences.
