Everyone is happy when a
healthy baby is bom, but Paul
and Theresa Murphy’s happi

here at Boston Floating Hos

daughter, April, arrived April
is lucky to be alive. A greater
miracle is that she is com
pletely healthy.
The Murphy’s first child,
Heather, died in early in
fancy, despite all efforts to
save her. A postmortem exam

cause of death. Because we
suspected an inherited dis
order of metabolism, special
chemical tests were performed
on the fraction of an ounce of
the child’s urine which re
mained after she died. The
mystery was solved when lab
oratory findings showed that
the baby had had methylma
lonic acidemia, a rare, often

cause mental retardation.
In a genetic counseling ses

the disease could be present in

THINK COLOR
If you want to give your
house a face lift this
spring—think color. The
palette in paints, wall cov
erings, accessories and
utensils i n cl u d e s rich
earthtones that are restful
and soothing. Deep choco
late browns, clear yellows,
bright greens, brick red,
sand and gray are stressed
along with white or beige
for background appeal,
says Charlotte Womble,
extension housing special
ist, North Carolina State
University. Primary
schemes in red, blue and
yellow are popular, too.
