The annual renew oftbe South'a industrial pregress, as published in this week's Manufacturers' Bec- ord, of Baltimere,'8bows that 5133 new manufacturing and mining enterprises were organized in that section during 1889, against 3618 in 188S, 3430 in 1887. and 1575 in 1886. The amount of capital and capital stock of these companies was $2,229,703,500 in 1889, and $168, 801,000 in 1888 The total number of new industrial enter prises organized in the South du ring the last four years, or since Jan. 1, 1886, of which the Mann- facturers' Record has given full particulars, is over 13,700, divided as follows: Iron furnace compa nies 125, machine shops and foun dries 445, agricultural implement (factories) 63, gas works 101, flour mills 535, furniture (factories) 220, cotton mills 267, water works S31, carriage and wagon factories 178, electric light companies 475, min ing and quarryiugenterprisesj 1801, lumber mills (including saw and placing mills, sash anjd dsor facto ries, stave factories, etc.,) 3036, ice factorfes 273, canning factories 425,' stove foundries 25, brick works 585, miscellaneous iron and steel works, rolling mills, pipe works, etc., 184, cotton compresses 114, cotton seed oil mills 148, mis cellaneous enterprises not included in the foregofug 4415 : total 23.744. They will breath upon the youth of this fair land of oars, Also Apollas Dye, who is high up but bends down gently with a sympathetic nature and is charitable toward all man kind. On the 2nd Sunday I preached at Ebenezer and Asbury churches. At both of those churches I was warmly received and my hand was tired by shaking hands with so many kind ladies and gentlemen. They are noble specimens of humanity. On 3rd Sunday 1 preached at Mt. Zion and Hebron churches; at the.former I was introduced to about 40 persons,. I alto met some old acquaiotences who were t apt. D. B. Austin, Josephus Baum, Dr. Woodson Fearing, and met lor the first timeGeorge Jarvis and Major Wood house, both genial and clever men. I stopped at both of their residences and their charming wives just know how '.o treat a Methodist preacher, and they did it. At the latter 1 met lots of people who had come out to see the new preacher. In that community the people are thickly settled, and the church; was crowded. Alter the service was over, I was intro duced to so many people, Oh, my I can't think ef their names just now, but among the many l remember. Ur. lyitts. Thomas Newbern, Wilson Woodbouse and Capt. Thomas Bairett. They are all clever gen tlemen ana Kina neighbors; l have their tecord. Capt. Barrett is a jovial old gen tleman . I met my old friends Thos. Sanderlin, Wm. C. Mercer and his amiable wife and T. C. Sanderson. I also found the Sheriff of the county, J no. Barna d to be one of my flock. J always like to keep on the good side of the sheriff. Ou Xmas day we had service at Moyock church, the young la dies ana gentlemen decorated the church very hauusomely with holly and cedar, and the choir practised some Christmas hvmns and the music and singing was pei formed very sweetly. Altogether it was a happy(day. I took Xmas oinner with Sander'iu and oh my, well you knots what. On Friday 27tb, St. John's day, was to be observed at the Court Ilouse by Atlantic Lodge A. F. & A. M. I had an iavitation to be toere. I accepted and weut. Officers were to be elected and installed, and work. There I met Past Mastei Dr. Hal Shaw and D.. Cowel, and .a lot ot the pure and noble sp: its. At 1 p. m. we were called to refreshment at the Hotel and a g ami d nner we had.
