The American Commissioners were received by Captain General Blanco in the Pal ace and after formal courtesies they held a secret session behind closed doors which lasted only a short time. It is thought that the settle inent and evacuation will be accom plished without delay, and thatjhe Commissioners of the United States will be liberal and their terms cf agreement - There were no demonstrations cf hostility or approbation by the Span- ish population but there was gicat curiosity to see the Steamer Reso lute in which the American Com missioners had been brought over to Cuba, and iramenso crowds gathered at the dock to see the American ship. At Porto Rico the American Com missioners have arrived at San Juan and notified Captain General Ma rias .of the Spanish government of their I readiness to enter upon nego tiations for the evacuation of -Poi to Rico and the surrender of the sov reintv of the island to the United States under the agreement of the two countries. There was no ex planation of the delay and the Am erican Commissioners sent a note to the Captain General asking for an explanation. The note was carried bv an officer of Commodore Schley's staff, who wa3 struck by a brick hurled at him from the crowd, which truck him on the leg and. fell at his feet, doing no serious injury. Soon after, the Captiin General notified the American Commissioners that he would be ready to receive them on the followingday. It is now thought that the nego tiations will take place . at once and the evacuation will take place at an early date. A very large attendance at Camden court Monday to hear the speaking.
