There is only one opinion about which all are in accord, and that is that our oyster grounds be long exclusively to North Carolina and that none but resident' North' Carolinians shall have the benefit of them. Dredging has always been a disputed oyster question. Mr. J. J. Ward, of Ehzabeth'City, and J Miss Estelle Coningland, of Currituck county, were- married yesterday evening, in that - county, by Bev. Bent us a . 17 pound Swan on Saturday, that was a sight to look upon, besides the sentiment of friendship tfiat il inspired. It was white as a snow bank; except its spade bill, and black feet that looked like all creation could nt trip him, and his head which contained that cerulean eye that rivals the gazelle's in beauty. Gentlemen, it jm cnbJect to mm TVa 'r .- VnrmlfUCO cored children for 60 jtx. Bend J3T UJBfc BW nnear. w . . H . mm II - was a swan. Its neck had . all the curvatures of beauty and reminded one of .the 77 war horse that sntuTeth the battle from afar. When the Infinite gave a swan to creation he must have paused to gaze on this master work of beauty of his ornithological crea tions, and when he endowed this queen bird with the spiral convolu tions of' his larynx and gave him that lengthened, guttural.. that has made him, for all time, a wonder of melody that Beethoverri has failed to rival, he must have uttered the word "excellent." The swan is the most beautiful of all birds and even in death he is a beautiful corpus. Taxadermitized, he would make a grand object in the museum at Baleigh, and . Bepresentative S. M. Beasley, of Currituck, would do a work of beauty, if he would get Thad to send him a swan of 17 pounds and have him.taxaderma tized, for the Stat museum. But a swan takes a lower seat at the ban quet than a Wild Turkey, a Canvais Back, a Bed Head, or a Booby Duck. Had the Creator made him a table bird, par excellance, he would long since .have been known only as a fossil of a prehistoric age, as he would have been exterminated when Nimrod became a hunter. Thanks to Thadeus. . Nimrod Notes. AVehada kind call on Wednes day from Captains Midgett and Craddock. of Mann's Harbor, Dare county, and we talked abou gaming and fishing until we were all dizzy. From the information we then gathered from these veteran sports, we are inclined to think that Croatan and its vicinity is a sporting Para dise, and while not equal to the Goose Honk of Currituck in the sport of game birds, it is equal and a rival in the game animals that prowl in the forests and in the jungles. S. B. Tillett, of Mann's Harbor, in Dare county is the champion bear hunter, coon hunter, and deer hunter of that section. About the close of the year 1898 he caught two fat coons in one "snap up" of his trap. Willis Tillett, brother of S. B. killed a buck deer, about the same time which weighed, when dressed, 158 pounds and he sold it for $15,00. J. W. Mann, of Mann's Harbor, is a famous Nimrod and has a. bregd of dogs thafc he has grown by "selec tion of the fittest,", that he calls "crooked tooth," that has a differ ent bark for every variety of wild animal that is found in our swamps or forest. One bark means a doe. Three barks a bear. A yelp a coon. Two yelps a wild cat. A yelp, a bark and a growl a catamount. The instinct of the "crooked tooth" is un erring. Mann is now the head hun ter of Dare county. J. R. Beasley's taste and talent lies in ihe direction of wide waters and scaly fish. He is the first to announce the advent of the first famed white shad.He shipped two boxes of assorted fish to Balti more on Tuesday and , among them were 8 nice shad, besides herrings and rock fish. The buck shad were 75 cents a piece and the roes brought 81.50 to $2.00 according to size. HoLLixsos STKVK5S & Oo., have In stock of "Graded Seed Oats."
