Coke Smith who is near death s door at Asheville. Bishop Smith, whose home is in Norfolk is one of the junior bishops of the Southern Methodist church and is well known in North Carolina and Elizabeth City. He has preached in the First and City Road Methodist churches here and has many friends in the citv. How many of the mothers of Elizabeth City would have been guilty of this piece of negligence? It ib not. often that a mother for gets her onild but there is a story told by a railroad conductor that shows this was done two days ago on a road entering this city. The train was then well underway and probably a quarter of a mile from the station. He looked out and saw the mother and several of her friends chasing down the side of the railroad, fol lowing the train. ' He signalled the engineer, brought the train to a stand Btill and then waited for the parties to come up. The child was then restored to a friend of the mother's and by him carried to her, who was aimost frantic with grief.
